    don't know if you're still looking for zappa-esque tunes but i just discovered django bates. he's pretty clearly influenced (even arranged jazz from hell for chamber orchestra) and prolific. his arrangement of "new york, new york" feels very similar to a lot of frank's works. the version off of "like life" illustrates it better but this should get the point across: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N19rEz26Ufw

    as for other bands entirely, steely dan is sometimes reminiscent and were influenced by mothers-era zappa, also stereolab can have a similar sound to his jazzier stuff. check out the album dots and loops
