I'd say that analogy is a bit exaggerated, but I can see your point

Ned still deserved the ban more than those people individually because he posts off-topic so consistently. That was just a one-off thing where people joined in on the jokes, but he was just individually and frequently posting about his day-to-day life. I'm not saying that their posting off-topic wasn't wrong, I'm just saying that Ned still deserved it, even if it wasn't very much more deserved than a ban for the other people.

You say Neds near-constant off-topic posts were completely harmless, but that seems to imply that the 'threadshitting' other people were doing earlier was harmful in some way. At least that was amusing, definitely moreso than reading Ned's personal blog of 2012: 'guess what i got for christmas' edition.
