Realize that most of the practices detailed there are outdated, and for a good reason.
Realize that you are looking at wikipedia.

For a really long time, I did not know that it was tea making me feel better. All I knew was that I would feel like shit with my nose blocked, my parents would give me masala tea, and then HOLY SHIT snot coming from my nose as if I inhaled vicks.

As far as GI purposes go, actual ayurvedic medecine works very well. However, modern medicine rules in pretty much all other fields besides symptom relief.

I dont have anything besides years of experience from myself, friends, and family that the method I just described works. (Not to mention being from an entire bloody nation that practices this)
