I've been missing platinum for 3 years. I plan to get a german copy this summer.

Spearmen get a bonus against cavalry I think. Still though, that's pretty intense if they didn't have very many spearmen.

I rarely go for a science victory because I feel it's way too easy. If another civ tries to initiate a science victory I just go and take out their capital after they get decently far into it.
