Dr. Kleiner just made a new invention. It's a storage device which can store objects in an alternative universe. Now Dr. Kleiner can store all his lab equipment in the QSD (Quantum Storage Device) and have it in his pocket.

When the QSD is activated the device will emit cosmic radiation (that will harm you if you stand to close) and the device will start the charge up sequence. The QSD will after the charge up sequence open a portal to a alternative universe. The QSD were originally built for traveling between alternative universes but because of the radiation no living person can go through the portal without dying.

The QSD can be used for storing objects.
The QSD can also be used for killing unwanted enemies. The device will not only kill them but also hide the corpses.

The portals have shown to be perfectly safe but the QSD has not.
Any damage made to the QSD may result in a rather unpleasant and unstable portal, the QSD will consume itself and all objects around it in a big area leaving nothing more than empty space.

Instructions:
Activate the QSD by pressing use on it then get away from it so you don't take to much damage from the radiation.
When the portal is open it will suck in objects in the portal, the portal will also damage players and NPC's.

When the portal is closed all the objects will be stored in it.
When the QSD have been activated once the lights on it will change from blue to red.

If you activate the device again the portal will be red this time and all the stored objects will pop up again.

You can use the device unlimited times except if you damage it.

The QST doesn't store entities or vehicle because it sometimes causes Gmod to crash for some reason.

As I said on your video (But you'd probably be faster to read it here), it looks really nice. If you update this, maybe one that stores the location of objects sucked in in relation to each other? (Ex. Advanced Dupe in a can)

Well I have tried it out. I doesn't seem able to store entities. Sometimes when you try to use it, it disappears. However it is a cool mod. I would recommend it for download!

P.S. It would be cool if it could take you to the alternate dimension if you survive the initial radiation burst.

I think this would be better if the damage was not as bad and if it saved welds and stuff. This way you could move anything you want around a map with a bottle similar to what the guy above me said from the tv show.

Nope.
Stored as data in a table then removed and then spawned again(stored in another dimension!).

That actually sounds like Avons cloaking generator when you have phase shifting on but this would be alot better because you use a portal to get to the other dimension. Also I was wondering if you do make it so it can pull players into another dimension can you make it so that you can lock the portal from the other side so that no one can follow you in.

If you make the hypercube it will make my day.
Also it will help keep builders away from RP'ers.

It is fun to use, and i have used it to kill mass amounts of enemies. I also used it to kill striders and hunters.

I agree on this. Well not the striders and hunters part, I don't know the commands to spawn those. I love damaging the QSD with tones of NPCs and watching them all disappear into the next dimension is fun.

Also please don't quote all the pictures next time. Just saying.

Could you make one that holds players? The space that they're transported to could be solved with a separate set of props in a simulation of an extra dimension.

Just take all the props you have at one time, noclip them with props on the other plane, then set their Alpha in color to zero. Then have some sort of holding pen as a prop.

When it's reactivated just switch the plane.

I would lower the damage a little, this kinda makes it unuseable. Or make a warmup timer to GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE.

Awesome refraction effect, but a few things i noticed was that in all your effect files you create 2 particle emitters but only ever use one, also the particles spawn in a box shaped field around the device you can fix that instead of using.

use this
local pos = 200*self.Speed*math.Rand()*(VectorRand():GetNormal())
It makes it look alot better, you can also do this with the velocities as well.

Looks awesome! But I have no idea if my computer could take it. The portal looked pretty rifting... Does it effect FPS at all??? (I get an average FPS of 6-10 on Gm_construct (Do you think it would crash me or what???))

They're gone. They go away with the device.


This is quite an awesome creation. The fact that it won't store entities is a little disappointing, but not too bad. Also, when used on a Hunter it doesn't suck them up (since the device alone doesn't kill the Hunter. If you kill the hunter ahead of time it will store its corpse though)

I think a Swep version of this would be incredibly awesome. Mostly just because having to run up to the device to activate it is a little annoying.

what if the cube was destructible? So, once someone destroys the cube, everyone in it will die, and everything in it will be removed? :D

But in an update can't you do so the props spawn in the same way as they where sucked in??

Maybe make 2 different ones. One is done.. and one that is stable, so that the props stay upright in original position??

And then maybe another time make an extremely unstable one that will at some point explode with massive destruction?

Oh.. And is there any limits??

Like how many props can it store?

And a size limit??

left click to store props, and right to spit them out.

(think about suck a mk, then spit it on a player, making him explode)

Would be better if it started exploding and a portal in the other dimension opened and people had 5 seconds to escape or die.

I'm still in the military service so my free time is very limited.
I can't make another swep version of it or with wire support because i just don't have the time right now. :(

If i will update the QSD i will start with trying to make it saving ents, vehicles and maybe players.

Awesome, I used first parachute and later Quantum Storage Device and i get into the bottle but is a way no-return. lol



Re : I think to be easy for player you can convert them into ragdolls when enter into the portal and later into players when get out the portal, for the entes or vehicles the same you can convert them into items when open the portal and later into each category when get out the portal. And you can make an effect in the screen of the players like a frenetic tunnel but clientside,during the time they are into the bottle (if they are more than 1 minutes in the tunnel they die,then they need help from other players).

I like your idea, but this would require altering the map, (unless the LUA coder could also map and make a map change point leading to that map on the device, but it wouldn't work in multiplayer.)

Actually no.

You can pull it off without changing the map at all. It'd take a bit of trickery though, and be a full-blown addon.

What you can do is when a player a player or prop enters the alternative dimension, set a shared variable on them saying as much. Then, using clientside code to decide what models to draw and such, you can do it so only people in Dimension A (normal) can see props and people in Dimension A, and people in Dimension B can only see props and people in Dimension B.

To complete the illusion, adjust collisions as such, since the players are still there, just invisible to the player - disabling collisions between dimensions will make it so you won't run around and run into invisible player-shaped walls.

List of bugs:

Roping two ragdolls to the device and then press e on it may crash your game.
Putting two devices next to each other and putting ragdolls then starting them up at the same time may cause errors.

Nice idea actually. And since there probably isn't a way around this anyway, it's probably a little redundant, but I still want to suggest it. If you were to do this, have it so the flashlight will still show their shadow. The way dimensions work, you can see the shadow of things in other dimensions, just not those things themselves.

In order to make an addon that sends people to other dimensions... Why not just take advantage of that "other map" glitch??? (I don't know if it's on Flatgrass only or not.) When it does this, it sends them through the "other map" glitch and changes their view a little. (although this might be harder than what was allready suggested)
