Hai I cant install GTA IV on Win2k3 - even though I've done it in the past, however I cant remember how and it worked perfectly fine.

Note: Win2k3 runs like XP, just faster - you have to tweak Win2k3 to be a gaming PC slightly but still 270+ FPS in CS:S stress test with an old 8800 about to die and an i7 2.66ghz is pretty good - so no flaming please that Win2k3 is a server os and not to use it as a personal os blah blah blah untrue lack of understanding blah.

Anyways I tried right clicking both the Setup.exe and Autorun.exe and setting the compatibility mode to XP and Win2k however both do not have an effect. However XP on the autorun does have an effect - the setup goes HEY WANNA INSTALL? So I click accept and then it flickers and the setup terminates (basically a window appears and disappears). No idea why...

Any ideas?

THANKS :D

You enabled graphics acceleration right? A lot of regular apps (related to games at least) require it to run. It's turned off by default in 2k3 because contrary to what you want to believe, it IS meant for server use and not workstation use.

LOL I said I get 270+ FPS in CS:S - wouldnt know that if I didnt have graphics acceleration enabled.

And yeah it is meant for server use however by tweaking it you can unleash a lot more power compared to XP. But still thats not related to the setup lawl.

He's talking about XP SP3, not 2k3 SP3. The two are quite diffferent, and despite what you think, XP and 2K3 aren't the same. Get the latest service pack for 2003 from Microsoft Update, make sure GTAIV is patched up and that you have the latest DX version.

lawl.

No 3rd Service Pack for Windows Server 2003

Edited:

Oh and regardless, I've played GTA IV before however it wont install this time.

Edited:

Oh and I've used Win2k3 for around three years, used it for gaming too and every game has worked on it such as:
> C&C
> HL2, Gmod etc all the Steam games
> AOE3
> FSX+04
> World at Conflict

And moar and moar and moar...it's just stupid that they disallow you to install on Win2k3 since its pretty much the same when it comes to gaming compared to XP.

Shit, I thought you were going on about Windows 2000, not 2003.

Senior moment. My mistake.

Note: you guys are on about things completely different. The issue is that THE SETUP IS NOT ALLOWING ME TO INSTALL ON WIN2K3 not that I dont have the latest DX etc or that its not a workstation OS...seriously. This thread is about getting past the setup restriction...

Edit: runtime tis fine lawl apologies if I was :@ at you. But seriously people are just going NOT WORKSTATION OS GET WORKSTATION OS GTFO when I know it works fine its just the setup, I have bypassed it before (i'm sure I used run in compatibility) but its not working this time :\

Edited:

This is the furthest I can get and I have no idea how I get to this stage, it appears randomly after trying to run the setup 20 times (no joke):

AHH I think social club didnt install correctly automatically the first time round...since a directory was made and I was never informed about it lawl. I will report back soon...

Edited:

Nope Rockstar Launcher tis fine, no idea why this isnt installing.

Didnt notice at first, but isnt there supposed to be Windows XP SP2 instead of Windows XP?

I have the latest Windows Updates...LOL WTF?

Edited:

E.g.:

I could see Windows XP SP2 before...why not nao ... :(

Edited:

Or did I somehow make this work before some different way - since apprently Win XP SP2 doesnt come up on SP2 of Win2k3... :S
