Yes you can. It is only 1.6 you need an activator.

I heard something about 1.61? Does that play Wave 4 games? I have a BenQ drive. And should i go to 1.61? I have 1.6 at the moment (i think)

Edited:

I went ahead and flashed to 1.61, i think it can play wave 4 games without the activator disk.

Well Episode From Liberty City works fine for me without the activator disk, sorry you are having problems. I'm still unsure if you can play wave 4 games online without getting banned though, don't want to risk it until i know.

For all you folks with noob Xbox flashing questions, go to Xbox-scene.com
For all the elite hackers that are research about the kernal functionality and hypervisor, go to xboxhacker.net

You'll get much better answers

And Dylan_94_2, it's the same answer every time about playing backups online:
Play on Live at your own discretion. It may be safe for most of the times, but there are banwaves and newer checks.

Basically the current ixtreme firmware isn't coded to run wave 4 games. The ixtreme firmware checks to make sure the video partition matches known data, this is to stop you getting banned when playing backups. ixtreme firmware will only play wave 3 games straight off the disk.

They introduced an activate.iso file that you can burn to a disk to override the video partition check as they predicted that microsoft would be releasing wave 4 sooner or later.

ixtreme 1.51 works with any game regardless of whether the video partition is intact.

One thing that I am going to say is that Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom (sarcasm), is planning on disallowing the usage of alternate memory storage devices, to read more about it, I can give you a link of where I found the story, go back a few pages and I think you will find the source.

Here is the link:

I would love to use my 500 GB external hard drive to store more data for Xbox 360, but Microsof is taking steps to prevent that.

Actually, USB drives could never store external data, and will still work after the new dashboard update is released.

It's just 3rd party ripoff memory cards that will stop working.

EDIT
It's not Fw they are banning for, though fw is the reason people are getting banned, even when they play just retail games, there is a difference somewhere when a game is being read on flashed box, therefore flagging your console getting you banned.

They have checks for fw now.
The xbox live security challenges do not/cannot "check" the firmware. For 99.9% of the cases, it's the media that is inserted into the drive that causes the ban.

I'd still stay off of xbox live if you have modded firmware. Two of my friends have been banned in the last 3 days. One of them was playing a legit copy of CoD:WaW when they were banned and the other accidentally left their xbox on in dashboard and when they got back they had a message saying they were banned. I still have yet to be banned but as soon as I heard about Microsoft laying down the banhammer a couple days ago I have remained offline. I advise all to do the same until this ban wave is over.
