This just isn't about GTA IV really, it's about the whole series. I was watching someone play The Ballad of Gay Tony on JustinTV and they were talking about how it sucks and all and he said that it's not much better than TLAD or just GTA IV. He also went on about GTA in the earlier days and about how it sucked then and how much it sucks now and he asked everyone why TBOGT would change his mind apart from the rest of the GTA games. The thought popped into my mind "You just suck is all," but then I thought yeah, some things may be the same over and over again, but the differences is what makes it such a great game. It may be generic at times, and maybe a little repetitive, but it still doesn't make it a horrible game. And a lot of people don't like GTA, but why? GTA basically has every principle that a sandbox game should have. Role-Playing in multiplayer, having the ability to drive around and shoot at people; to cut it short, the freedom to play freely and do whatever. Even the little things about GTA make it such a great series; the music, the cars, guns, environment. And people don't like GTA because...? Apart from it not being the most realistic/unrealistic game ever or not meeting your personal expectations doesn't mean you have to bash on it. After all, it IS GTA. Possibly the greatest series in video games ever.

Because it's always glitchy I'm guessing. Maybe those people are just so bent on having a realism they hate every single thing unrealistic about anything.

Anyway, I think the people that bash GTA the most haven't played it and think it's some mindless "shoot everything lol" game. Sure, you can go on random killing sprees, but it isn't really the point of the game.

Agreed, though some people hate on gta it's usually because they just suck at it , also that 4 player podcast was pretty gay. I got banned from their chat twice because i yelled Black people eat bananas...

But what you said about saints row 2 fans hating on gta isn't true sr2 was great and so is gta, gta just gets deeper in the story, sr2 storyline isn't planned as much as gta is.

Saints Row can get good, but they did steal some ideas a little bit, in my opinion. I'll use parachutes as an example. The parachutes started with San Andreas and while they didn't have them in vanilla GTA IV, Saints Row 2 tried to compete with Rockstar and say 'Oh hey guess what, we have parachutes now and you don't.' But if San Andreas never even had parachutes I doubt Saints Row 2 would have them either.

Gotta say, I was not a big fan of SA. Probably attributed to me turning on pedestrians riot half-way through the game and saving on accident. Yeah, try doing some of the later missions with your brother trying to kill you, haha.

It all depends on the needs of the player:

I personally really disliked Saints Row 2. I think that the ideas for cool gameplay were there, but it was implemented badly and it just felt like an unpolished game.

People dislike GTA because they dislike having fun.
People dislike Saints Row 2 because they really hate having fun.

What is so great about Vice City? I thought it looked horrible and wasn't better than SA at all. SA was four times the size, and had many more vehicles, guns, and environments.

In fact : GTA San Andreas was better for it`s time. They could make GTA IV better than it is.

The story stayed in line with itself. It wasn't like SA where CJ was just a little hood boy at first then started flying planes in the desert. It didn't have as much content than SA but it made a little more sense. That's what I think anyway.

And the atmosphere in SA was fucking shit compared to the awesome and glowing pink look of Miami in the 80's that VC had.

I personally dont like the cold atmosphere of Liberty city, thats a matter of taste. But popups and
unbelievable low framerates are not a matter of taste.
