I have my own server box. I got 2 for $250.
Moving to data center because the data center will sponsor it. The specs on the box are 2 duel core Intel xeon 3.4GHz.
146.7x8 in raid 5
The company I bought them from used them as a database.

This.

Or Kimsufui, people say bad things but I hosted around 100 slots on one of their servers (100% full on occasion) with no issues for around 5 months before I stopped my community. Their support is shit, but if you know what you're doing, there's no problems.

Or debian now that the linux binaries are out ... it would use MUCH less RAM (like 120MB as a base install).

No, linux is still very very very glitchy, I dont think windows server 2008 web edition is that bad though as they raised some stupid limits, but meh

I'm assuming you actually tried this and had issues? What issues if I may ask.

I was running the linux binaries back when they were first released and other then a few issues they were more stable then the windows versions.

I'm very curious on what you are basing your statement on.

Not in my experience, in fact Linux binaries seem to crash less then Windows (when it comes to spammers and such anyway.)

Granted, there will be some compatibility issues with mods - particularly .dll's, since linux cannot support them. If the creator of the .dll's will not add in linux support (.so's) then that is their problem, not the server or Garry's.

My winbins (Pun not intended) rarely crash - with the exception of Fretta, which regularly crashes due to the sloppy coding of the gamemode creators.
