I didn't ask for help. If something doesn't look right, he can tell me, and I'll respond nicely because that would be constructive. When he adds a whole explanation,
and gives me suggestions on what to do, then we have a problem.

Well, your tracer broke the emission rule. You would rather I had not pointed this out? Constructive criticism is supposed to offer solutions instead of just whining about it being broken, which I was at least trying to produce. I can't see your code, so am I supposed to assume that you knew all there is about everything in the physics of light?
There's no such thing as an "emission rule." My ray tracer cannot break a rule that doesn't exist.
If I was going for photo-realistic lighting, I would've written a path tracer or a photon tracer.
