Apparently it'll just now be called Windows Phone.
Apparently it'll just now be called Windows Phone.
Good. Now it sounds slightly less clumsy than saying "Hey, did you buy a Windows Phone 7 phone?".
Okay, well, not really, because now it's "Hey, did you buy a Windows Phone phone?".
A step in the right direction, nonetheless.
Uh, why would you say phone twice?
"Hey, did you buy a Windows Phone?"
Because Windows Phone just feels kinda...odd. Maybe it's just me. I feel like I'm saying, "Hey, did you buy an Android?".
But it has "Phone" in the name so it sounds more natural.
For Android, it'd be "Hey, did you buy an Android phone?"
Looks like there will be no dual core for WP7 anytime soon, just updated Snapdragons, does anyone mind? That Asus phone looked super fast without dual cores AND it was using Mango.
Honestly, I've never used a smoother phone than my Samsung Focus. Everything happens without waiting, it's really nice.
The only thing that could be improved, in my opinion, is the actual hardware itself. My volume buttons are kind of mushy now and aren't as clickable as they used to be. A better GPU couldn't hurt either.
Why don't manufacturers use the design made? It's probably the best design there'll be made, so why not?
Or atleast make one use it.. ASUS is going in the right direction, but still.
Yeah, single cores work just fine for now. Android runs like buttery silk on my Thunderbolt, so I'm guessing Windows Phone with it's standardized hardware sets will run fantastically on the next gen Snapdragons.
Something I'm a bit worried about is when Nokia starts making their cheap WP7 models. They'll be forced to use a last generation CPU (not that that differs from what they're doing now, but with Symbian and a "dedicated" GPU, battery life is fucking nice), simply because WP7 is pretty much just optimized for Snapdragons. As it'll be last gen Snapdragons in the cheap phones, it could hurt battery life (which is otherwise pretty awesome with Nokia) and it will also not be faster than the ones with current gen. I'm not very good at explaining what I mean, but I hope most of you understand my concern. Nokia's WP7 concept is nice, either way.
Edited:
NoDo is coming on AT&T the 19. of april, it seems.
I just wish that Microsoft would give up on their Internet Explorer engine and switch to Webkit.
Well, IE9's pretty good, and I don't think IE10 will be worse..
Doesn't WP7 use IE8's engine?
Isn't the IE9 engine in the NoDo update? Or am I wrong?
AFAIK it's in the Mango update
Has anybody been able to get the enhanced Google Mobile to display on IE9?
Bastard child of IE7/IE8 engines
I'll finally be getting NoDo this month.
Good thing I didn't use the tool and just tricked my location.
Edited:
Oh there is already a fix from the Chevron team which has been officially approved for those who did use the tool.
crisis averted
Is anyone else still not able to access the marketplace?
I'm doing a survey for school on mobile phone usage and behavior and I'm trying to get a diverse-as-possible database, so I figured I'd do it in English and get data from Facepunch as well as from my classmates.
If you could do the survey here that'd be great.
I already posted this over on the Android thread and it'd be great to get results from a more diverse userbase than just Android users.
I'm thinking you should have just posted it in Fast Threads. The Android thread is more active than this thread, so naturally you'll get more Android results, creating some bias.
But whatever I'll do it anyway.
Think you might be right, I've only had one Windows Phone 7 entry so far.
Then again, I've only had one iOS entry too.
The rest are Symbian (classmates mostly) and Android (mostly from the Android thread, but we have some Android users in the class).
More Mango leaks:
Handwriting and Bing Dictionary.
Better Skydrive integration in the Office Hub.
Messenger Support in People Hub: You will be able to chat with your contacts right within the people hub through Windows Live Messenger.

Oh God, Mango will be fucking awesome.
Welp now I'm pretty glad I kept my Focus.
I have Launcher 7 on my Galaxy S II. I now want a Windows Phone to mess around on. The Metro UI is just great. It makes a change from the normal UIs. What's the modding/development community like on WP?
Check out XDA.
Wow.. My Omnia 7 has completely screwed itself over. Originally - bluetooth was just faulty. Didn't get around to fixing that.
Now though. It's just gone apeshit!
It started out crashing when I tried to make a phone call. Then, it wouldn't accept my pin numerous times until I restarted it. I don't know if it's a memory problem or what. Lets start with the camera - when I take a picture, it cannot save and the camera app freezes. Secondly, when I open the pictures app, text goes everywhere and the whole thing messes itself up. I cant open any apps, facebook etc.
Ok I thought - lets reset it, try again. Clicked reset - phone restarted. My pin and wallpaper still there, nothing in the phone has been reset or fixed at all.
Fine then, format time. Booted it holding the special buttons. Format window comes up. I press format and it says its formatting.. completed!
It restarts to my PIN and wallpaper..
Wow that's unfortunate, my faith in Samsung has taken a dip lately from things like the update issues that are only affecting Samsung phones. I have already ordered a HD7, my mum is getting my Omnia 7![]()
I'll make a video tomorrow for my review site and link it here. It's really crazy.
I can't wait for the Focus 2 or Omnia.... 8? Either way, it will be awesome.
Left to right: My HD7, Mums Omnia 7(originally mine), Brothers 7 Trophy, Dads HD7.
What do you find to be the best one?
My god, the screen on the Omnia looks amazingly better than the other ones. I am swooning. Why did you get an HD7 over the Omnia?
I got an LG Quantum 2 days ago, and I love it.
It's so damn responsive.
