Yes he can. Art is art, everyone can have their own opinions about it and there is no right or wrong. So why should there be right and wrong people to form their own opinions about it?

Nobody in their right mind would say that the image johan posted isn't fantastically done if they actually understand the medium.

The amount of work and thought to get something like that is phenomenal. Even if he doesn't think it's appealing it's obvious he doesn't understand what it takes to create something like that. I've seen plenty of work I don't particularly like but I respect and attempt to fully understand what went into it. Doesn't seem like he's doing that at all.

I've always found people who judge art at contests I've been to have no idea what they're looking at. It seems to be a qualification for the job to hate everything. Must be easier to figure out what you hate the least than what you love the most.

He hasn't really said anything about how well done it is or isn't though. He's just saying he doesn't like those works at all. What he mainly didn't like was that it was just a show-of of a model with lots of fancy shit on it and that the image itself wasn't art at all as it wasn't composed beyond "look at this person I made". It's obviously not his piece of cake, but he didn't deem it not well made.

Why care about the effort put into something? If you can draw Mona Lisa in 3 seconds freehand and another person carefully builds up a skeleton, looks at light sources and all sorts of jazz to make it good and you both end up with the same result I would think both were just as good. The result is what matters, not the process, the process is only cool to know.

Well again, he never said anything about the technical work aspect of it.

You've taught classes as I remember so I'd assume you'd have experience in figuring what you hate the least

I was trying to make a point about composition, not say anything about it's technical aspects. The model is technically well done, but overcomplicated and confusing, whereas the other is technically simple, yet effective and easy on the eyes. Must I rephrase that again and again until you listen?
