    i don't know dude

i own an MPC and it's pretty much the greatest and most fun thing i've ever used, the way you can cut up beats and the sound is just incredible

but then again i enjoy a sound that's really grimy and sampled from vinyl so that's my pick

From what I've researched, the Maschine can do everything an MPC can do.

If you have the time, watch this video. He grabs most of his samples from vinyl too.

This guy has owned tons of MPCs and he has replaced them with the maschine.

So, I just started listening to rap. I've barely gotten into it, I like a little bit of every music type, so I wanna know where to start. I listened to a bit of Sean Price, and I'm likin it. I'm likin NWA too.

oh yeah it probably can do way more

but it's about work flow and the UI you know
what you make with the Maschine is way different from what you make on an MPC, and that's true for both the sound quality and the song itself

I understand. People either like one or the other, but if you have the chance to use one in person sometime, I'd still try it out. Juss' sayin.

Shockingly I found this album in my local HMV, whose Hip hop/R&B section is usually devoted entirely to Grime.
The album had very little advertising in the UK but it did have a TV spot.

    Alright, I have a dilemma.

The store I tried ordering my MPD18 through simply can't get ahold of Akai. They've been calling and calling and they can't order it, they're going to keep on trying, but it wont be anytime soon that they'll be able to order the pad by rate of which things are going. I am going to try and order it online, but now I have more options.

    Korg KontrolPad $169
I hear good things with this pad, but I rarely see hip hop artists producing with it. I just see a lot of Akai users. Also, I could most likely still order this through the store.

    Akai MPD26 $161
A few more features than the Akai MPD18, will last me longer. Would have to order this online.

    Akai MPD18 $100
Has quite a few less features than the other 2. Would have to order this online.

If I spend more money on a pad, I'll have less to spend on a keyboard.. but I'm probably going to stick with the oxygen 25 anyways and I'm going to be working again soon, so I might just spend the extra money.

Any thoughts? I will be using this for mostly hip hop and rap production.

Pads are somewhat helpful, but nowhere near as good as an MPC.

lol that's because the pad isn't what made the MPC worthwhile protip: Kanye West's new album has a lot of beats made from the MPC

I'm not even sure what we're talking about

afaik the only difference between the MPC and the MIDI pads is that you have to load samples on the MPC on floppy disks which is a pain in the ass

    http://soundcloud.com/thisispain/mpc

first one is your average computer sampler at max quality, the second one is an old MPC

    Ordered my Akai MPD18.

Gonna be layin down dem phat beats :smug:

Probably going to order my keyboard tomorrow.
This. It just came in the mail today, I've got it hooked up but I don't know how to set it up for FL Studio -- the pads do nothing at the moment. Any tips? I've got the FPC thing open.

I need a bigger desk and one of those USB Firewire port things, lol. Had to unhook my microphone to fit the beatpad on the desk.

Also, if anyone has any awesome ambient songs like this they'd like to link to me, I'm looking for stuff to sample. Kid Cudi just rapped over this song for "Man on the Moon."

And if anyone is skilled at some music program and would like to make some beats from sampled ambient songs, post here or PM me.

Heard that on the podcast the other day. If that and "Papermill" are any indication of what's to come, don't expect a sophomore slump from Madvillain.

And since I'm in here and happen to be listening to Madlib, you guys can listen too.

What would last a normal MC an entire song would last him ten seconds.

    Edited:

Got the MPD18 working but the beat pads play completely different ones in FL Studio, and most don't play at all. Hnnngh.

Deltron 3030 is pretty bad in my opinion. Del tha funky homosapien is a great rapper but the production sounded crap on most of it, and it seemed a bit rushed.

Got my MPD18 pad fully working, although I can't use the Oxygen 49 yet because my desk is too small. If anyone has some good sites for samples/drum packs, do tell.

Also, does anyone know how to record into FL Studio with the pad controller? Lots of people do it on Youtube but I can't figure out how.
