I have done some thinking on previous versions of Windows though and each version is better than the previous (in my opinion) in some way or another.
Especially, though, in the case of XP > Vista > 7

Thinking of installing, does it have any compatibility issues? I'm guessing its just using most of windows 7 so it should be fine with most things?
Kinda sucks I have to find a dvd or usb to install too, I loved being able to install from within windows.

Oh and the deleting files thing, does it delete files only on the partition it's installed on?

Linux is only good for servers and casual PC's, or any extra PC's you don't wanna pay to upgrade the OS.

Where your definition of casual = "Doesn't play that game that I really like", because in reality Linux is better for much more than that.

My Windows 8 install thoroughly fucked its self yesterday. Wouldn't boot, complaining "innaccessible_boot_device". I tried the usual flipping the SATA mode from IDE/AHCI/RAID and it still didn't work. Even after about 3 hours of messing with BCD/Boot Sector/BIOS settings it refused to work (I knew all my of data was still on the disk since I could access it from command prompt in WinRE..
I ended up giving in and just installing Windows 7 again

Well it's better than replacing your current OS with it.

It's better to use VMWare, or whatever you like to use for virtual OS's.
Cause when you want to remove the dual boot, you risk fucking up your original windows configurations.
You can't just delete the partition with the beta and reallocate it to your original, gotta have the CD.

Well most productivity/office apps are Windows and OSX, and using Wine is not a really good solution.

I disagree, libreoffice is a perfect replacement for all of your office needs.
I think linux is the perfect alternative if you're not going to want to play any games on your machine, or just a few java based games or games that run flawlessly through wine.

What's the difference between that and Open Office for example? (To name another open source office thing) because Open Office just doesn't work as a replacement to MS Office

As far as I remember Open Office has been sort of abandoned, Libreoffice is updated much more often

Where are you getting those statistics from? There are plenty of productivity apps on Linux-based platforms, the repos are quite filled.
LibreOffice is OpenOffice and a whole lot of patches that weren't accepted in OpenOffice. Actually it's much more than that but that is mostly what you need to know. Since OpenOffice already worked as a replacement for MS Office unlike what you claimed (it helps when you use real open formats like OpenDocument rather than OOXML), LibreOffice just does the job even better.

I've used Linux, and I think it has some potential. I just feel that the brilliant neckbeards behind it don't quite understand user dynamics the way Microsoft and Apple do. Without corporate backing and a wide variety of fully-supported professional apps, it's very difficult to have a successful OS, either in the Consumer space (They handle this pretty well, but not well enough for most people to consider the transition) or the Professional space. (Most professional apps, and I won't list them for the sake of space, are simply unavailable on Linux/Unix. You've got to have money to buy platform agreements, and FOSS doesn't have that ability.)
While there are plenty of FOSS/GNU softwares that can replicate some of the features of a professional program (Blender comes to mind. Easily one of my favorite 3D applications.), they're not able to fully emulate a professional-grade solution due to patent law, trademarks, and copyright restrictions.
I'd like to see a FOSS system reach that level, but it doesn't seem like they can. Not easily. The companies will always have something the Open Source community doesn't - Money. That's probably the only thing they're lacking.

To be honest, I'd rather have one developer who does a job for free than 10 who do it for pay. The code quality is usually higher, and maintenance of the code tends to last longer when people are personally involved with a project.
That said, I don't think lack of professional software has much to do with the platform. It wouldn't be impossible for Adobe to port Photoshop to Linux if they haven't already, and it's just a matter of time before professionals escape the 80s and start to realize that Linux is a viable platform. The same will happen for games eventually (it's already beginning with Indie games) and I don't think it will take another 50 years before companies realize that Mac OS X isn't necessary to run professional software.

If the 360 controller worked with the metro UI (I never tried to see if it does or not yet), it would nice just connect it up to a HDTV, and you can just kick back on the couch without needing a keyboard/mouse. It would become more like a high end upgradable console.

Knowing Microsoft and their product compatibility, there'll probably be some sort of control with an Xbox remote.
If not, it'll be hacked together in a few days.

I have a feeling Xbox 360 controller support will be up to the app's developer.
If that is Microsoft you can probably expect support though.

Works fine here. Blame Windows or the JRE for fucking up registry keys/settings somewhere. Android SDK does the same thing if you try to use the 64-bit SDK on Windows 7 x86-64.Would be nice if it worked.

Every other Java application works. The envvars in Windows are properly set. This is the only application to toss me a JRE error.
