Yes, learning to use EasyBCD to repair and rebuild bootloaders is a very handy skill to have.

I have already managed getting the .Net Framework and EasyBCD onto a bootable Windows 7 PE USB, so I can boot into the PE and load and repair/rebuild boot entries and the bootloader itself and assign what partition/drive I want the bootloader to reside on.

It is a VERY EASY tool to figure out and is a damn useful alternative to using the command line.

I use EasyBCD sometimes. Often, I just click the button that says "Install Windows 7 Bootloader" and continue on with my day.

That's proper use for repairing a bootloader, right?

Apparently (according to WZor) the Windows 8 Beta (Build 8175) has been compiled and signed-off.

Well typically to ensure you dont have redundancy, you would tell it to remove the old bootloader from whatever partition it is on, and tell it to create the new one in either the same or a seperate location. This is just for tidyness-sake. And you have to ensure that when you recreate the bootloader, removing the old one, that you make new entries for each operating system you have or you wont be able to restart and get back in without a Recovery Disc of some sort.

You can also use to Multiboot easily. I think for that you install MBR or something.

Linux is always the one to install last, So we can use LILO or GRUB 2 to boot from. And it's easily customizable, especially with BURG.

Hmm... Well I wouldn't mind tinkering with it in Virtualbox, like I did with majority of the leaked 7 builds. I'll only install the Beta, RC, and stable RTM on my main machine.

Yes, I would not mind getting my hands on an unstable build in a virtualized environment for the sake of seeing it firsthand myself and tinkering with it.

But if they were to release the build as beta without first giving it some thorough testing, there would be others who'd just go "oh this is shit, I don't like this it's unstable" so though it shouldn't because it's beta, people could still form an opinion about the final product based on its beta. Just look through this thread about the alpha we use.

On behalf of everyone, I feel I need to clarify what we were asking for. We did not ask for "the beta leak" as representing the "final beta". We asked for a leak of it so far, bugged up or not. That was the request.

Now you could go on all day about how it is unstable and would give everyone negative reaction / ward off people, from trying the final beta product, and that is subjective to every person who would try it.

Could I possibly then just ask for a private link to it PM'd to me in my Facepunch inbox, so everyone ELSE does not get confused as to what the leak-beta and final-beta is, so at least I, and/or anyone else who asks, can at least try the leak privately, and when the final-beta comes out from Microsoft for public testing, that you can post a link to it 'publicly' in the Windows 8 Megathread.

I'm not saying you can't have it, it hasn't leaked. Microsoft has to make sure it works as well as possible before they send it out to testers, corporations and oems, and then to the general public. All this is why we won't be seeing it until February (if it doesn't leak). If it were any other build they would do the same thing, fix the bugs that are in it and then go again.

It runs good. I've noticed a few UI glitches though.

Reason 6 and CryEngine3 does not work on it. I'm going to switch back to Windows 7 for now because of that and wait for a release that makes at least Reason 6 working.

I like the new start menu and the new (finally) dual monitor taskbar.

I'll definitively switch over when it's released. :)

And, currently, it only saves user settings and specific data (I want to say your photo/video/documents libraries, but I think that's opt-in.).

Yes, to have a cloud, par say, store system files, so say, you could use a new and improved SFC
    (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_File_Checker)

So if you wanted to run maintenance tasks checking whether or not the current system files are non-tampered with, you could compare it against the "Cloud SFC Backup" and restore system files through it, and you wouldn't have to worry about the possibility of your Local SFC backup being damaged in order to restore system integrity. Just an idea, but a damn good one.

Yes you can change a local account to a Live account and vice versa. To change a local to Live you have to do so in the Metro Control panel and from Live to local in the Desktop Control Panel (hope this fragmented experience will be fixed).

I'm just paranoid because I want important data (like my steam accounts with passwords in a text file, my word doc of phone numbers, etc.) safely backed up online, but I have no idea what encryptions, etc are in play on the cloud's end, and if everything is even encrypted during transfer. I don't need a Sony incident where I lose all my Steam accounts because somebody sniffed the raw text during transfer somewhere...

if you really want to make sure those documents are encrypted when backing them up, just throw them in a truecrypt container and put them on dropbox(or wherever, but i think dropbox is probably the easiest as far as this method is concerned)

    lastpass is literally the best

the encryption/decryption is done client side so even if the servers were compromised nobody would have access to your passwords

and the company is really transparent about security, even going so far as to tell users about a network anomaly that meant a third party could be attempting to access the servers, so they were going to put some additional security measures in place

of course, the media interpreted this as OMG LASTPASS HACKED!!!!
