What technique do you use? I paint in real life, but not in photoshop.

Well for that particular piece I painted everything on one layer with only grayscale gradients, then I had a couple of layers on overlay mode and colored it.

there's a huge fat highlight spot on the belly ruining the whole shape.
Also trapecius seem to be horribly overdone and shoulders are in a wrong position for that kind of pose, they should be more pushed back or somthing. He looks kinda like a krogan.

still hard to think of a situation why character should have that kind of clothing in that kind of situation, or even being able to stand in a pose that extencively use the muscles that have a new, bleeding bullet hole in them.

Just to make you think about what you do instead of throwing in random details that contribute in no way other than visually.
It'd just be more beliveable if you'd have to cope with the hole, and it'd be more intresting.

You managed to catch the personality quite well, which is more than we can say about most portraits here.

Well to be honest I love your style. It reminds me of my own when I used to draw for like 5 hours a day back in high school. Your comic is also very professional.

sweet. I really love the photo. You really nailed this with some seriously emotive brushwork. Perhaps the background should be less contrasted though? The characters blur into it a little.
I'm not sure the feeling of the image would have been captured better in some really intense colours too.

Not anything fancy, a rough brush that came with photoshop. One of those texture brushes I think.

Mouth is way too low. The space between the lips and nose should be about 1/3 of the length between the lips and bottom of the chin.
