Yeah, they got called a prog band so they said "You want Prog, we'll fucking give you prog then" and went completely over the top, they even wrote an entire back story for Thick as a Brick, based on a fictional poem written by a kid for a competition that recieved massive public attention and was declared as detrimental to british values and the like
Fucking amazing execution for a parody.
Hahaha that's brilliant.
Prog as fuck
Yeah it's fucking brilliant, the lyrics are amazing, they actually bring you to think and to feel, and it was all done as satire and parody.
:derp: incidental glory all up in this bitch!
It's very ironic that that album is now considered to be one of the very best prog albums created in history, really![]()
I know, it's really quite beautiful, and I'm sure that the irony was lost on a lot of the early proggersprobably due to their pretentiousness that was being mocked as well

Well it's not that easy.. Jethro Tull as a band were inspired. It's not as simple as them "trying to be pretentious", they just didn't realise that they were actually an amazing prog group.
Nah I mean that all the prog fans probably started off as pretentious and didn't realise they and the bands were being parodiedNot Jethro Tull being pretentious, fuck they were the complete opposite.
Prog as a whole has got stick for being pretentious. It sucks to be honest...
Critics don't understand that it's one of the most significant genres in rock music.
Listen to this from about 6:30 onwards:
dat synthesiser
Damn good album... sad it was panned.
If you guys enjoyed Thick as A Brick, you'd all enjoy A Passion Play, it's not as good as TAAB, but still brilliant.
Some highlights:
The last 15 minutes of the album is just pure magic.
Are Jethro Tull gonna make a new album any time soon?
There was rumors that Ian had enough songs written for an album, it's just been delayed a lot, not to mention, with the condition Ian's voice is in now, we can't expect anything too good. All though the album "Secret Language of Birds", Ian's solo album is a very nice folk album. (All though Ian is still an amazing flute player)
He's still doing solo work isn't he
I have it but I've not listened to any of it yet
Edited:
o he's not released a solo album in 8 years
lol
:smith:mikeyt posted:
Even if he did release albums, I'm sure they'd be pure folk. Tull seem to have gone off of prog rock, which is fine as their folk work is also pretty damn good.
Thread needs more Transatlantic.
I've found something guys... I really have. :smug:
Is it some more italian progressive rock
Because I really think its more italian progressive rock
I call your Duel With The Devil and raise you a The Whirlwind (live!)
Read this post carefully.

Progressive Motherfucking Metal in 1969 without anyone knowing?? :psyboom:
Ha ha, oh you're so original.
Any "Avant-Prog" listeners about?
I feel a lot of FP is quiet about music.![]()
I listen to Crotchduster, Dog Fashion Disco and The Alter Boys if that counts.
I do like me some Zappa, but that's about all I know in that department.
Not so much.
Edited:
Zappa is actually very accessible come to think of it.... as in I am fairly sure I can find a bunch of people that will be able to laugh and sit down with it on.
They are all prog, avant-garde and rock at some point![]()
Care to venture a section of that Crotchduster album that is? :buddy:
Some genres might be off because I was also watching TV at the time I wrote this.Crotchduster Musical Styles posted:

Winner. Because rating you winner is almost insultingly feeble.
However I'll rate you winner too :buddy:
Thanks.
I'm really liking Thick As A Brick.
Just got it a few days ago.
You may like Aqualung more.
But awesome avatar![]()
I listened to the title song some time ago.
I really liked it.
Should get the album on my playlist next.
And thanks to you too for the compliment.
You might end up liking Jethro Tull as much as Pink Floyd, I dunno. Give it a lot of time.
I doubt that, but I will give them Time.
