I still haven't heard ELP's In The Hot Seat album. Apparently that's the most hated prog album of all time. :smith:
I thought the most hated was Topographic Oceans?
You insane bro? Whoever hates that is a fool.
The cover has become an icon within the genre anyway.
Edited:
Such great artwork.
And its fucking amazing
I think the reason people dislike it is because it was an example of the worst excesses of prog. There were points in the album where I was sat thinking "okay so where exactly are you going with this" and 7 minutes later I would be thinking the same/
It has its moments of awesomeness (like Wakeman's synthesiser solo at the end of the first track) but there's a lot of filler.
It's not an easy album to crack, plus being that Bruford ditched them.. it was going to be difficult to find purpose in their artistry.
It isn't so much of a journey like the others, it's more like a place you've got to go and adapt to.
I may be talking as if I'm high, but that's how this thread has to go :smug:
Really gotta get myself this. How is it compared to Colors?
It's not their best album, but it is another amazing album by them. I loved colors, one of their best albums but i like The Great Misdirect more than it.
Also, this album is the first of two albums which go together, Their next will contiune the story in this one.
Ah sweet. Do they have an actual full length in the works, or was it just this EP?
This one was an EP, but it's part one of a story which will be continued by the next full album.
They did it as an EP so they could release it quickly and have new songs to play live
It's not an EP, but an LP. They switched labels and they didn't state that it was a EP. So, i am guessing its going to be a full length album that broken up into two LP. The first of which is already released, should give them a listen to i am sure the songs are on youtube.
I'm confused. An EP is generally shorter than 35 minutes.
Back the day it was accepted that a 25 minute album was an actual LP. Now it's generally seen that 45 minutes is the boundary for LP qualification. :3:
It's pretty much on the dividing line between an LP and an EP in length, but it's marketed as an EP and the band consider it as such so it's an EP![]()
I wouldn't mind if it was 40 minutes and it was considered an EP. But since it's only borderline, I see no reason for someone to start a fight. :smug:
what is BTBAM doing here?
some people reccomended me their album "colors", i listened it, oh god it was bad.
i mean i really like prequel to the sequel, awesome riff, until the singer started singing.
either way i'm pretty sure they're not prog rock
It should be a progressive "music" thread, I don't mind other genres like Prog Folk and Metal coming into play too. They all draw influences from each other anyway.
They're progressive metal, but they do take influences from prog rock for sure
Also it's not like their singer just growls or screams, he does cleans too.

Get pascall to change the title

Oh and their album Alaska was released as an instrumental if you enjoy the instruments but not the vocals.
Nah, the OP is set in stone. We're not drawing that many sub-genres anyway.
mostly those awful, awful growls though.
thanks i'll check that out
awefull
meant awful get your panties out that twist.
awefull post
I like my panties twisted thank you very much
Come on, guys, you seem to be awefully rude here.
I am in awe over these posts :smug:
:smugissar:
I was thinking about making that pun, but I've made enough awefull puns already.
They are Prog metal. Which is in the OP so i decided to share. They are a really good band for that genre of prog. The singer has amazing clean vocals, also.
One thing like about BTBAM is the fact they go from really heavy to soft then sometimes back to heavy.
I thought Love Beach was their most hated album?
:fappery:
BTBAM Unveiled it as an LP, some other sites say it's a EP but the band itself announced it as an LP.
I love how Ants Of The Sky goes from bluegrass to progressive metal in seconds and it flows completely perfectly
It's an EP. The band know nothing. :mmmsmug:
It's an Album, Everyone know nothing. :smug:
Metal Blade announced it as an LP, all the interviews I've read have had it announced as an EPTommy Giles in a MetalSucks interview posted:
:iiam:
Is it possible that it's a LP since they changed Labels?
:ms:
No, the label will have announced it as an LP because an LP will get more notoriety than an EP, and they obviously want more copies sold
BTBAM is pretty damn awesome
It's not often you hear metal in a major key
