seems a bit unnecessary to get a new bike unless you want something different or much higher quality, i would get the cables changed and the gears reindexed if that fixes the gearing issues have a new rear wheel fitted and the bike will be fine for minimal cost. even if reindexing doesnt work it would still be cheaper to replace the required parts than to buy a new bike
just went to the bike shop and had them look at it. It's the only bike shop in the area that actually does repairs/tuning/etc, and it costs $100 for a tune-up. The rest will cost "much more" if it requires fixing and replacing parts. I'd rather dump that money into a new bike at the moment since it sounds like I'd be spending almost as much as it cost in the first place.
after looking around the shop today and riding around on a few different bikes, it seems I'm leaning into road bikes. (hurr, leaning). I got to take one out for a while, blasted up to 30mph on a sidewalk and had what I can only call a nerdgasm for bikes. I can live without off-roadin' for that thing, maybe keep my normal bike for when people HAVE to take me on trails.
