Just a random question: When, in your opinion, a person 'knows' a programming language? Surely people don't master the entire language and all of its extents, yet they still are said to know it.
I would say someone "knows" a langauge when they can write syntactically correct code without having to use a reference and can write "correct" code that is well designed based on the constraints of the language.

For example notch does not know java

People put too much emphasis on the language, rather than general programming theory or problem solving skills.
I really think that most good programmers can pick up new syntax in a week or less.
Good. Someone was just bothering me saying "you can't know that many languages, you must be shit at all of them" while in reality it's that easy to learn a new syntax.

Been working all day on rewriting a texture converter tool.

It basically takes a bmp-file and converts it to a custom format, aswell as generate mipmaps using one of three available sampling methods:
    None - Pixel skipping
Grid - Average color of nearby pixels
Random - Gets x nearby random pixels, and gets the average of those.

It then outputs it in one of three formats:
D - Single-byte "depth" image. Useful for bumpmaps and whatnot.
    RGB - Self-explanatory
RGBA - RGB with an Alpha channel

Next I'll probably try to add TGA and PNG support.

Im playing around with heightmaps generated from perlin noise. I also managed to get it change texture based on height but it's a bit rough at the moment.

Knowing the specifics of a language isn't important. If you suck at design.. you will suck at all languages...If you're good at design then the language really really isn't important. (assuming you're moving between similar approach languages so not a move from OO Prodedural programing to like functional or natural language programming)

It's the most fucking useless error message in the world.

I'm calling a Save() function and the BOs I'm using crash on reading part of the cached database config which is null. I'm 90% certain it's because the caches aren't being populated properly but I can't find any that aren't :frown:

Uni programming project (We have to do one every 2 weeks), this time it's about pathfinding algorithms.
First we had to implement Bellman-ford, then Dijkstra, and after that A*.
My first really implemented pathfinding algos ever ;D

(Standard Edge weight: 4, Yellow (Swamp) edge weight 8, Pink (Mountains) edge weight 10):

As you might have already guessed, A* is the fastest.

    I got Terraria to compile!

I hate this codebase. I know that decompilation changes stuff a little bit but Main.cs is 9803 lines long and I doubt a decompiler would lengthen it that much. Main.cs contains a method called GetInputText, which (as the name implies) handles texboxes, and it's 252 lines long and full of hacks.

    A* is the fastest, yes.
If you want to know more you might want to try different heuristic functions (Chebyshev, Manhattan or Euclidian distance).
The heuristic function and overestimation you choose will have a major impact on how fast and accurate the algorithm is.
