Yes. You otherwise can't delete files that are owned by root.

Don't you think it would be a security nightmare if '/' could be written to/deleted by normal users? Not even Windows allows normal users to write/delete anything other than their own files and folders.
    That's a yes.

It's automatically mailed to "root@localhost". If you open a CLI mail client it will check the local mail spool for the user (I think it's /var/mail/username_here).

root opens (for instance) pine and BAM! tons of sudo reports.

I think they show up as "mail" when you log in as root, never checked though.

On OpenBSD (which is effectively the native OS for sudo, as the current maintainer of sudo is an OpenBSD dev, and OpenBSD has sudo out-of-the-box), it sends an email to root, saying who it was, what they were trying to do, and when it happened.

My mother will constantly complain that it can't just automatically run some BigFish game or other if I did that to her laptop.

Fuck, LG is going to make MeeGo phones as well. That part doesn't bother me as much as the fact that NOKIA WHERE IS YOUR MEEGO PHONE? Don't let LG make the first one, that's the worst way to introduce a new platform to the market. By having LG make it.

Hey guys I need some help, my brother got infected with ANOTHER virus, this one calling itself "Windows Recovery," with the whole "pay to fix your computer" scam. (Apparently every component on his computer is fucked up.) I had MBAM installed, but it causes the computer to BSOD, task manager is disabled, and the internet connector is fucked up.

It's trying to use something to run harmful code, which is luckily blocked by MSE, but yeah...

I don't want to infect my USB drive, so what's the best linux distro to fix his shit? (Or should I just reinstall Windows?)

I was recently helping one of my friends weigh the pros and cons of buying and Nvidia versus and ATI graphics card another student asked what we were discussing, when we simply answered by saying "Graphics cards," he replied with "Oh, as in like Pentiums, you must know that they're always way better than Dell and Intel card chips." We both had a hearty laugh.

THE ANSWER IS "INSTALL LINUX" - NOW WHAT WAS THE QUESTION?
If you were as harsh on Linux-bashers as you are on homophobes, there would be no problems. Quite a double standard you have.

So, the computer I was assigned in the robotics lab at my school keeps booting into safe mode. I've been trying to open MSconfig to disable it, since it won't let me boot into normal windows and I can't get my work done. We had a sub today who actually knew a lot of IT shit, and I was about to do a bunch of stuff to the computer to try and load MSconfig since everything is blocked.

The sub sees what I'm doing and thinks that I'm going to really rape it. After a talk, everything went better than expected, and we became bros.

Sadly I didn't get to fix the computer since apparently MSconfig is missing from the Windows folder and all the sub folders.

I decided to point out to my dad that Portal 2 uses Steam, which he thinks screws up computers, to see what would happen. I tell him it, and he says it is fine, because retail games are not the problem. I ask him what he means by that, and he tells me that "the problem with all those shit downloaded games is that Steam packs them with Trojan horses. Retail games don't have Trojan horses."
I tried explaining that was completely wrong, but he told me "just shut the hell up or I'll uninstall the goddamn thing."
My Dad is very cemented in the idea that Steam is what caused his computer that was 9 years old to fail. Somehow, Steam managed to fry a few capacitors on the motherboard and that's totally Steam's fault and I should never use Steam again.

My dad used to call steam a trojan and that valve could go through your computer and delete anything they want and you could never fully remove it, leaving fragments of data all around your shit.

Yes, BC2 is tied to your EA account and you can use EADM to get it. It being on Steam is pretty irrelevant.
