I always wear a balaclava, and use either a respirator + Desert Locusts or a full-face mesh mask. I'm paranoid as hell about losing teeth in airsoft, as being a machine gunner means that most of the hits I take while in cover are on the head and I can vividly recount some face-hits I've taken while wearing my mesh.

An added bonus of respirators is that they vector your breath away from your goggles, even when wearing a balaclava underneath.

I don't wear face protection because it's not period accurate for my Vietnam war loadout. I'm weird, right? I'd take the risk of losing teeth and taking painful face hits instead of straying from historical accuracy.

Sometimes I wear a neck gatior with my modern kits though.

This, only wearing a simple balaclava encourages you to keep your mouth shut even more and provides a great amount of additional protection for your entire head (no in the ear, up the nose, or bare skin shots). Back in my starting days I bought a polypropylene 20-ply balaclava off of Evike and that shit was uncomfortable and hot. Bought a Blackhawk lightweight nomex balaclava and I never skirmish without it now.

Also, KWA Makarov looks sick, but I still probably won't get it because KWA GBB hopup is whack.
My balaclava is fucking fantastic. If I'm wearing it and goggles, I keep it up and don't open my mouth because it reeks of sweat and I don't want that in my mouth.

I put it under my chin when I have my full face mask on because I can't talk otherwise.

I'm kind of odd in how I wear mine. I use glasses with a neoprene half face, but don't have it up over my nose. I have the nose bridge part on my upper lip and the rest hangs down, it's supported there by my rig like a gorget.

I'm going to make a quick rant after what transpired between my friend and I yesterday, and am wondering if anyone feels the same way.

My town is a very army-family type town. Now, see, the problem I have with this is, is that every kid in my town who plays airsoft and his dog wears ACUpat that's two sizes too big. All of these kids get everything handed to them by their military family members and I have to say it's kind of agitating to those of us that have to work for our stuff. For example, my friend's cousin recently sent him a legitimate SureFire 961, a box of chemlights, ACUpat BDU's (XL, my friend can't wear but a small.) Some boots, and some bullshit helmet that isn't PASGT or MICH. Now, yeah, I'll admit I'm sort of jelly, because who wouldn't want a $400 flashlight just handed to them for no reason? Though, there's a sense of hilarity in the situation. My friend's new SureFire is worth more than everything he owns for airsoft. He has a JG S-System with two hi-caps, a broken front sight, a $20 red dot, a cheap ABS Vert Grip, and the $400 SureFire. It's just kind of funny how is flashlight is worth 4x his gun. He was bragging to me, but I finally just told him; "I'd rather have a $100 [SureFire Replica] Light on a $400 gun than a $400 flashlight on a $100 gun."

As face protection, how about just cutting away the upper part of a gas mask and wear good goggles instead? As I busted the glass on my gas mask, I ain't using it until I've completly removed the glass from the hole and washed it and such.

That'd probably really fuck with the stability/strength of the mask and there wouldn't be much point wearing it. Doing the above is the best option.

Wear another gas mask while cleaning it, lol. But seriously, I don't think there would be anything that dangerous in it...

Dammit, there's some cool games coming up on the winter break, but most of them are going to be mainly CQB stuff, and going into buildings with 120 cm's of armalite doesn't exactly seem like a best idea.
I still have my CQBR front set and inner barrel somewhere, but AFAIK, short barrel + type 0 cylinder (no slots) = BB's doing some crazy shit.

How would regular M4 barrel length work with such cylinder?

Yes. The use of asbestos in filters is entirely apocryphal. That said, activated charcoal is some nasty shit and it would be best to take care anyways.

Personally I think it will look a little silly to have a gas mask that isn't actually sealed over your face, but it's your choice. Why not use goggles plus a half face respirator for the same general look?
