Adding on to what haze said, it also gives you less DOF.
For example, on a normal camera, 105mm gives you more bokeh than 50mm, but you get a tighter image and a smaller field of view. Medium format makes the 105mm field of view roughly equivalent to 50mm, but still gives you 105mm-bokeh. This is extremely useful for me because its not how much bokeh there is, its how far away and big my subjects are while still being able to blur out the background slightly.
It's the same thing as saying "35mm gets less DOF than 1.6", except on a larger scale.

I brought these two images to the same size on your screen to show you what the final difference looks like (posting on the internet at 500px wide). If you took those same images and posted them at their original resolutions, the medium format would be significantly larger. You can look at H4Z3Y's post to see the difference. I also have this:

Not sure if this is the right place, since it's the photography section. Does anybody know of any good camcorders? Looking for something at least 720p. Price range around 150-200 USD
or even better, i'll spend a little more for something that is a good regular camera that can record good video

For camcorders I'd look around www.indymogul.com, since it's an amateur movie making site, they'd probably have a good idea in their videos or on the forums.

I have both lenses and though I haven't tested them head to head, the sigma is a lot sharper wide open than the canon. Don't know how they fare stopped down(probably won't notice a lot of difference) but the sigma is a great lens. The canon too though

Well I bought it on a whim - and although it has outstanding quality I just really hate being tied to 50mm. I also need a new phone :L I'm going to take it out properly on Friday and give it a bash - if I still don't want it I'll let you know and it's yours if you want it. It's a day old.

In a snow landscape where the sun don't even set I'd say it's way bright enough to take photographs hand held.

Okay, well I think I've landed on the Canon 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6L then. I'll buy it some time next week.

He's only going to suggest Canons. Some people are like that, and should be ignored. DSLR's are great (And Canons have superb video), but they can't beat a dedicated camcorder. They'd have a pretty good idea if you ask on the forums.

i'd like something that has quality similar to this, but his camera is like, 2 grand, so I'm probably fucking crazy for wanting something similar to that for only like 200 bucks.

Yeah, you'll have a lot of trouble finding something like that for anything less than a thousand because of it's depth of field. Spend a little bit more and you could probably find something with similar clarity, though.

You might be able to pick up something a little more 'pro' if you don't mind using tape or film cameras. I think there are a few good quality models that sell for almost nothing.

But, to be honest, it's probably best you buy something just under what you can afford (Say, 150) and practice heavily. Then save up, if you can.

How much more are we talking? I just want something that looks nice and clear. Like... something that has that "HD" look. If that makes any sense. I'm pretty inexperienced, so I don't really know correct camera terminology.

I think it's impossible to find a camera for under 200 that shoots in HD, has a shallow depth of field and manual controls.
As suggested earlier, getting a camera that shoots tape is probably the only option you have if you want to go near 'pro' level cameras.

And I don't really know on what factors you think dedicated camcorders are better than canons videomode, but their videomode is superior and even comes close to cameras like the RED. in functionality I agree, they suck. But the pure image quality is amazing
