I would just like to say if you're a fan of Alien, do yourself a favor and watch The Thing

    It's a great, great movie

I'm going to watch it again soon, the special effects are still awesome today. I kind of dislike how CGI has taken over models/puppets/machinery

The latter just seems more real

How about instead of that, one of his better films?
    My favorite is
    Coming to America (1988)
but I don't know if other people think Trading Places or Beverly Hills Cop or something is better.

This was already posted, but it was in a post with many other movies, making it hard to rate.

Anyway, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001, 2002, 2003)

It might not be a popular movie, but it shows how great acting and lovable characters make a better movie than one with all the special effects in the world.

    City Lights (1931)

Can't get any more timeless than this Charlie Chaplin Masterpiece. I would also put Modern Times and Gold Rush here, but I'll wait for others to make their mind up.

    Clerks. (1994)
I'll try to update everything now

    Edited:

Something will probably have to be done about the series since it'll screw up the ordering if they're counted together. I guess we could forget about the posts that include them and just repost them again.
    Also because this post
    Reservoir Dogs
    Great plot and structure.
Got so many agrees before actually being edited to Reservoir Dogs it's probably best to just repost it, unless people want to go back and change their votes

How did I forget this. Might not be that popular with Americans since it's a British movie, but it's seriously great.

The entire Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (2003)

Say what you want, all the films are fun little films. They're not artistic set pieces in the great world of film. They're just 4 little pirate films full of fantasy, laughs and silly action.

They're a film series I look forward to showing my children just like Star Wars, Back to the Future and Lord of the Rings. If that's not a sign of a good movie I don't know what is.

I think you should count disagrees vs agrees, because otherwise the ones on the front page will get more agrees than the ones at the last page

Like as a ratio? Might consider that. Although it'd be hard to rate a movie with 5 agrees and no disagrees against a movie with 50 agrees and 2 disagrees.

Maybe add some weighting for an higher amount of agrees or do it like IMDB where it only counts when it has a certain number of agrees

If someone can come up with a formula that takes in account agrees, disagrees, and total number of votes (Let's say starting at 5) then I'll use it

How about if you made this the nominations list, then made some kind of poll, on a survey site that people could vote for their personal bests?

I couldn't find a site that would do this well enough but if someone else knows one then that would work fantastically. What I'd need is something where you can fill in a new answer, or vote on an existing answer.
