"I'm not letting my de-boner anywhere near Leela"
"I'm not letting my de-boner anywhere near Leela"
Damn it, I was going to post a de-boner comment.
Can someone what channel the new Futurama's are on in Britain? Because I've been watching the one's on Sky 1.
It's Sky 1, but they're currently airing the new ones on (i think) Fridays, and repeating the previous episodes from the new series throughout the week.
It must be because Sky kept the broadcast rights for the series after it was originally cancelled, so now even though we have a Comedy Central channel in the UK (replaced Paramount Comedy or something, didn't it?) Futurama still airs on Sky 1. It's a shame, because now that we have a Comedy Central channel, they air new South Park episodes at the same time they air in the US, unlike the usual 9-month or so wait between new episodes airing in America and the UK. We wouldn't have waited so long for Futurama.
Am I the only person that thinks almost every episode since the mid-season break has been highly, highly disappointing? There are so, so few actual jokes when compared to older seasons, and most of them have some "current affairs" twist or "popular culture" reference that just make them all quite tacky and cringe-y. Especially Apple references. Far too many.
The animation has changed noticeably, they're drawn with more of a "Family Guy" lean (especially the eyes). I dislike that, strongly.
Also, Fry is from the year 2000, how does he know about Lady Gaga? (mentioned in the sickeningly bad Rumbledyhump episode) In that same episode, Bender said "That was the best Christmas ever". Wasn't it meant to be X-mas?
I'm just not enjoying them at all. The plots don't seem to hold up by themselves, it feels like the plots were hurriedly thought up just to create a set-up for some disappointing punchlines, rather than to actually have a good story, like it used to be. And, all of the characters are now acting completely out of character, for no reason.
(Also, the latest episode was just a complete re-hash of an old Simpson's episode, where Bart rescues the bird egg.)
Meh. I rather enjoyed Silence of the Clamps but besides that, they've all been far, far below their normal standard, and it actually makes me quite sad. It seems to me like they've changed to appeal to a wider (dumber) audience, and lost a lot in the process.
Just my thoughts.
I have enjoyed every single episode of every single series. I have no problems with any of them.
I found the rumpledyhump episode a tad boring but ive enjoyed all episodes
If you think otherwise, sure whatever, I'm glad you're enjoying the new episodes.
But I personally have always held Futurama to a much much higher standard.
There have been Apple references since season 1, I'm not sure what you're getting at. Every time you see something computer related in Futurama its Apple/Mac style. (heck, I think it might be the same in the Simpsons, so it might be a Matt Groening thing. I could be wrong. I don't watch a lot of The Simpsons)
I do agree with Fry making references from after the year 2000 though. Doesn't make sense.
Also, what characters have been acting out of character? I really have not noticed any.
Firstly, Bender suddenly going "I would rather die than hurt Fry" after spending a whole episode trying to kill fry with no second thoughts (also after, in an earlier episode, booting his firstborn child into hell). Another, Fry going and joining the police force, and doing well. Fry's supposed to be a clumsy idiot. He's supposed to fail at everything he does. Also, Fry, suddenly caring over the life of an egg, for literally absolutely no fathomable reason. That whole scene was rather forced. Leela's random conversion to "wholesome" free-range food was quite wtf too, and her character fluctuates wildly from episode to episode.
Ehh, maybe I'm being too harsh, there are definitely some good moments in these episodes (except Rumbledyhump, and Neutopia, those were just terrible), but the episodes used to be made up of exclusively good moments. Now they're less common. Still good... just nowhere near as good, and I find that rather sad.
@Arachnidus. Name a single cultural reference from the year 1,000.
Besides, things are different. You can't say that our pop culture will fade away as did that of the Middle Ages', because we have the internet and digital storage. As long as civilization stays, so does all of our information; every YouTube video, every song, every picture, every Tumblr page, every forum, etc.
Watching The Silence of the Clamps at the moment, and enjoying it. The robot mafia have always been some of my favourite minor characters. Also Hyper-Chicken the lawyer.
The police force thing is just reading into it too much, I feel. I wouldn't expect a comedy cartoon to adhere so strictly to a trait like that when necessary. I'd rather they went slightly out of character than abandon such a good episode.
Yes, Fry caring over the egg was a bit odd, and it's more difficult to let that one slide. Keeping with the rest of the episode, they could've changed up the beginning a little to make that more believable. Though I should bring back your earlier point about it being a rehash of the lizard egg episode of the Simpsons: No. It's got similarities, but it's got too many differences as well to call it a rehash.
Leela's personality has not been fluctuating at all, or at least not unreasonably. Her conversion to free range food is understandable, knowing her love of animals and other experiences (e.g. the restaurant in that episode, Popplers).
Even if you love the new episodes (and fair enough if you do, there's still some great moments there), you've gotta admit that you can notice a difference in the plot-writing and the humour style. It's something I can't help but notice.
I only think the ending of some episodes seem lazy or rushed. The characters all act in character still IMO. I think everything is setup fine and you guys are reading too much into it
I'm really excited for next weeks episode, though.
Fixed it, missed an S

I hate how there is not many episodes that have the delivering that they are supposed to do.
Stream starting in 15 minutes or so
TV only shows seasons 3 and 4 here. Or maybe they're not even sending it anymore, I haven't seen it in the playlists for some time.
Well I'm steaming all seasons, including new episodes as they come out
