Wow, these are pretty impressive. A friend and I are developing a few games with Java, and we're in need of somebody to make original soundtracks. You interested?

Also, a reload animation for our latest project that I drew last night.

Hey, sorry I didn't get back to you until now. I'm not interested in doing commissions or requests, but you can use any of the songs I produce as long as you credit me.

lovely work in the technical side of the painting etc but the design is far too reminiscent of the dead space suit thing. it's the rib-like structures that just seem too similar

(this is coming from someone who has never played the game btw)

    Edited:

you really need to use bigger brushes. it's painting, not scribbling
Larger brushes to what end? So that all my gradients are perfectly smooth? If I wanted a smooth surface I would have smoothed it.

How do you get detail in with larger brushes?

Yeah I was just commenting, I really didn't find them usefull. :/

    Edited:

I'm probably going to garner a lot of dumbs for this but the low opacity brush strokes are really obvious in both of these (the first moreso) and looks horrible. They're nice paintings overall and sure it's possible to make something nice with low opacity but i can't help but feel they'd look a lot nicer if low opacity brushes weren't used
Oh I don't want to bring this old stuff up again.
But brushes were at 100% opacity for the whole thing.
    I asked the artist.

So I'm trying REALLY hard not to say this but:
Get off your fucking 100% opacity high horse now.

Larger brushes wouldn't necessarily make your gradients smooth. What larger brushes would have done is softened the image. Your use of tiny brushes, applied in a very similar direction (very much an up-and-down motion) is distracting and does give the appearance of being scribbly. Instead of short, small strokes which are quite harsh, longer, more varied size and directional strokes would soften the image and make it more pleasing to look at. You can use tiny brushes for detail, once you lay down the more blocky shapes and values.

The main thing you're trying to achieve by varying your brush sizes is focus. By using the same, tiny brushes for the whole thing, the piece loses a lot of depth (and you've clearly gone for a composition that is incredibly reliant on depth). Lots of small brush strokes/contrast is like telling the observer "this is where the most interesting bit is", so when it's all consistently small brush strokes it looks much less effective. Also saves a shitload of time as an artist, because when something isn't the focal point you don't need to be so painstaking with the placement of each tiny stroke.

Your criticism makes sense, which is why it's good

I've learned that half of the criticism that you get online (and in the real world, actually) is insanely biased and is generally coming from people who don't know what they're talking about

Some pistols, as I'm sure you're aware, have a release mechanism that automatically chamber the next round, pushing the slider back in the process. The only time you ever pull the slider back is loading the first magazine, as after the last shot the slider sticks back (which I forgot to draw).

I probably won't need any help with this. The L85A animations will be...difficult. But it's not anything I can't handle. I appreciate your offer, but I've got this under control.

the shading is weird and the detail around the eye is really lacking. too much focus on crisp detail and not enough focus on how eyes actually look

Don't use the smudge and blur tools! I know it's a WIP, but your shading is far too subtle and doesn't seem very realistic. IMO perhaps you should start off by doing a couple of photostudies of portraits of people in harsh lighting - that way you can colour-drop the different colours and see how colour and value works over the face. As for actual paint techniques, don't be afraid of visible brush strokes, and try to use high opacity brushes.
