Social networking has been done lots of times already, done best by Facebook so far. If Google wants to draw people away from Facebook they need a site that average users won't have a problem with. I can change my profile picture on Facebook with 1 click from my profile page. In Google+ I uploaded one when I started and now I can't figure out how to change it. I'm annoyed I have to click multiple times to post a status update. I'm annoyed that if someone adds me as a friend I have to click through to another page to add them back. I'm annoyed that I need to sort people based on my social relationship with them--something that I can already do in my head. I don't need Google's help remembering whether someone is my mom or coworker. I'm annoyed that it defaulted to sending me email notifications about every single thing that happens on it and my inbox filled up with a page of Google+ notifications in the day before I logged on again and turned it off.
When GMail came out as a beta it was simple, easy, generous, and intuitive. It was not only inviting but really blatantly better than everything else on the market. Google+ isn't those things. It's complicated, unfamiliar, and uninviting to people who aren't already Web 2.0 sperglords. Yeah, I'm not dumb, I can probably eventually figure out how to do all the stuff I want (and probably more!) but it's not fun. And when I have something vastly more familiar and intuitive (Facebook) there's no incentive to switch like there was with GMail.
Google's had fuckups before, so far this just feels like another Google Video. They solved that one by buying out the people who beat them, YouTube. If Zuckerberg doesn't want to play ball, who knows how it's gonna end up.
So yeah, I'm sure it has some neat features buried under there, the circles idea is interesting if nothing else (didn't they jack that from Diaspora or something?), but so far as a thing for me to use in my day to daily, I'm not feeling it.

They're using the Beta for feedback though, clicking the little 'Send Feedback' button in the bottom right will let you give them your opinion.
So if people aren't happy with the interface, they'll change it.

I was really (really) skeptical about this whole thing at first, but now I can potentially see myself using this instead of Facebook. It's already replaced Twitter for me (yuck). Circles allow me to add interesting non-acquaintances without feeling like a stalker (so I have a circle full of notable people in the tech industry, and can occasionally interact with them). I've never felt comfortable adding anyone on FB that I don't know really well.

It's already looking better than Facebook. for me at least.

Seems interesting enough. Does it allow you to use fake info? If so, I'll just throw in a random name. I know that none of my friends are on here and I rarely use social networking, so I'll just invite myself over my main email address later. This account will just be to test the site.

I made an account, but I'm not even sure what's happening. I keep getting notifications about Autumn sharing posts with me, but there's never anything there! I don't know whether I broke Google+ or if Autumn just thinks it's funny to mess with my head!
It's pretty cool, though. I've got a special circle just for my Internet Pals!
