Something I don't like is that people seem to always complain about cover guitarists not being as good as Gilmour. I don't think the goal in a cover should be accuracy but rarther to express the song through your own perception of it.

This is John Petrucci doing the Comfortably Numb solo and I think it's completely fine. He doesn't play it like Gilmour, but that's what I find interesting about it. Anyway, if I wanted to hear a solo that sounded like Gilmour, I'd listen to Gilmour.

I do think it is quite appropriate to say the guy on the right should have been thrown off stage.

So my local rock station does a "two for tuesday" thing

Had Welcome To The Machine followed by Hey You today.
I'm going to place a bet we aren't in the same area, but I'm outside of Charlotte, North Carolina and they do the same thing. I must've missed Two For Tuesday yesterday. Damnit.

    Well neither does DSOTM

The 1973 album "Dark Side of the Moon" (and its more recent CD release) by Pink Floyd features cover art of a prism with a spectrum. It is dramatic, and it is correct in depicting the fact that violet refracts the most and red the least. The colors of the spectrum depicted on this cover are rather impurely rendered, particularly the violet, which looks purple. Purple, magenta, and pink, are not spectral colors. The dispersion (spreading) of the colors is also shown. But the refraction angles at the second prism surface aren't consistent: the rays which are deviated the most in the picture have the least bending at the second surface. The rays deviated the most should also be refracted the most at each surface.

Well the cover itself is a light refraction anyways, so maybe artists as psychedelic as Pink Floyd saw it picture perfect :mmmsmug:

How about we disregard the semantics of it and just appreciate the beauty and iconic view that it represents.

That's what I was going to say before. But I thought he informed us it was "iconic enough" as in people should be able to draw it properly without copyright issues, so I didn't bother to type it.

I wore my DSOTM shirt to physics class one day and the instructor used it as a teaching tool. Although I now know that it is wrong, it still got the point across.

One thing that bothers me about when people say this is that the idea of Pink Floyd suing Matt Groening for including a properly-drawn Dark Side Of The Moon sounds pretty out there to me

    That's copyright law...

Also I reckon it was way cheaper to use a cover of Comfortably Numb in The Departed than to go for the real thing.

    Gilmour's masterpiece.

Although he doesn't quite "bend" as much as he has done, I think some of his best guitar work is there.

I dunno, I fade between favorite songs, each one lasting 2 weeks or so.

Let's see... the progression was like this I believe

Great Gig in the Sky (discovery of Pink Floyd)
    Time
    Shine On You Crazy Diamond
    Jugband Blues
    Sheep
    Echoes
Careful With That Axe, Eugene (Ummagumma)

    Might've left something out.

The music consists of a light, organ-based jam (using the "Egyptian" style organ that is common of Richard Wright in this period), and an accompanying bass guitar playing just one tone (in this case, D) in octaves, with a segue into the song's only lyrics: the title of the song whispered menacingly, followed by a Roger Waters scream, as in "Candy and a Currant Bun". This scream would reappear on many subsequent songs such as "Run Like Hell", the very beginning of "Another Brick in the Wall Part 2", and "Two Suns in the Sunset". Then the song becomes much louder and more intense before gradually settling down again. In the heavier parts and later, quieter parts, David Gilmour can be heard with guitar and scat vocals; in concert, Gilmour would often sing along with his guitar line.
Source on it being Nick Mason?

Also, I saw a live version of the song once (on Youtube). Waters was most definitely singing, and the weird part is, he screamed some even before the ominous whisper. And when he did, he looked very happy in a extremely creepy way
