What is the Open Trail?
Open Trail is a collaboration of servers, designed by Inacio and I based off the ideas of the people of Facepunch. Its a different kind of gaminng experience with a very fun and unique community!
A fun factions server based around teamwork and exploration!
Trading
The server doesn't use economy plugins but instead encourages players to trade at marketplaces in towns. Players may trade however they like and theres no set values for anything. This makes us one of the few servers with a completely player based, and trade based economy.
Server Rules:
1) Racism and Homophobia are bannable on the first offense. This includes the excessive use of racist/homophobic slurs.
2) Don't be dumb, and don't complain if you're punished if you act like so.
3) Respect everyone in the server, we're all here to have fun.
4) No griefing. We have a log and will permaban you.
5) Do NOT ask for OP.
6) Flyhacking, X-raying, or anything of the sort will result in a ban.
7) Insulting or questioning an admin is fine, just don't create endless drama and don't start fights if your friend gets banned for breaking a rule.
Punishment for breaking rules
First offense: 3 Day Ban (Lifted upon appeal after 3 days)
Second Offense: Permaban
Gameplay
[release]Stealing: if the chest is not protected, stealing is allowed - don't mess up and forget to place your chest protection!
PvP: it's allowed. Outside faction settlements, be careful, and avoid travelling alone!
Griefing: fuck someone's shit up, and you're out for life.
There are 2 major faction settlements, you may either join them or go out on your own
Settlements have the following advantages:
• No hostile mob spawning on the settlement area;
• Grief protection
We currently have a dirt cheap 24 slot server and would love to add more slots if theres enough demand (read: donations).

Rules:
1)Griefing of any kind will result in a permaban on first offense, don’t be a dick
2)Try and keep to the theme of the buildings around you, don’t build crazy looking out of place things
3)No Pixel art, sorry but its just awful looking, generally unfitting and causes drama.
4)Admins can, and will, remove any buildings they see as ridiculous or unfitting
5)Be Organized, we don’t want messy structures or roads, keep everything good looking, when expanding the city build plots to ensure people will remain organized.
6)[No Floating structures (Except airships and the like) and no cobble towers, these are generally ugly and nobody wants them
7We’re all here to have fun so as always respect one another and work together to make this a truly amazing megacity.

Q:Whos in charge of this shit fest?
A: Our admins include Inacio and John, but we have a few moderators too!
Q:My 3 day ban is up, can I come back now?
A: Just PM John or Inacio with your ban appeal and you're all set.
Q:The servers down! What happened?
A: We sometimes go down because LD is doing maintenance or other various reasons. Just let me and Inacio know the server is down and we'll take care of it.
Q:How do you get those fancy tags in front of your name?
A:Doing random cool things, like making art or helping the wiki, etc.
Q: You guys should add X or change Y
A: Post all suggestions in the thread, let us know what you think, this is a server of the people after all!

I applied. Question, though - if this server will eventually have multiple settlements, and player to player trading is encouraged, how will chat be handled? That'll be global, wouldn't it? Might lead to offers being spammed worldwide.

Honestly we only have 10 slots right now, I'm not really worried about it. We also have message boards set up at the marketplace where people can also post trades.

This looks pretty damn awesome. If I can, I will totally become like a trader, following maps (maybe?) to different towns scattered around the place.
Will they all be connected with roads, or are we just hoping that they'll be easy to find?

Players may build roads if they want to connect towns. It would make it harder on the few thieves and killers that like to hang around the wild areas between settlements.

Thats something called Tectonicus and whilst it's alot better, it also needs to run separately, and can't run integrated in the minecraft server like dynmap can.
And since they probably aren't hosting it on a dedicated server, but only renting the minecraft server, they can't do this.
