any of you gentlemen interested in playing some games with me?
Dunno why you're asking me, I don't have the game
I just browse these threads occasionally, looking for games that I don't have that I might be interested in.
Fusiliers in Lynx AH-1 or AH-7's are pretty nasty. The SAS is also good at being forward AA and artillery spotters.
The only thing they lack is Gunships and decent artillery.
I fought two 6000 pt 1v1's today and I won both with ease; I just sent a Command Heli to either side of the map to capture a point, I watched as my opponent moved his entire army out of his home sector and let his Heli's get slaughtered by hidden AA, and then while his tanks went to attack 4 artillery I sent a Lynx with Fusiliers in round the back of the map to his home sector, they disembarked and blew up his only command vehicle, winning me both matches.
People get so carried away with making big armies they forget the objective of the game mode.
woo, funding aquired, will be joining the fun probably sometime this weekend
So how often can one group of well placed units take out an entire force?
Very, I killed an entire 1300-1500 point army in one of my games by using eight AMX-30B2's and four Flakpanzers to flank a Soviet tank unit that was attacking my American ally.
Killed every last tank and AA gun to the man, and I only lost two Flakpanzers which were my only casualties that game.
In my experience, positioning in this game can either be your greatest ally or greatest weakness.
4-6 257M Malka/Paladin artillery from the average territory distance apart to a group of advancing tanks often turns into a massacre.
Does anyone know of a way to get rid of the HUD yet? the game is gorgeous but the replay HUD covers even more of the screen than the HUD you get when playing. I want to have pretty screenshots goddamnit.
The visual noise in this game actually looks good and not overdone.
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
You wont be dissapointed goon.
no, i used multiple choppers, but most of the damage to the mi28s was from 2 stinger kiowas which almost killed them but died to the havocs 30mm
then i had 4 other choppers, cobras, come in at opportunistic moments and attack the mi28s that were literally 1 hit from dying, scored multiple hits on them, and they didn't die, and the 30mms practically 1 shotted all my cobras.
the last 2 cobras were actually chasing the mi28s and shooting the shit out of them with 20mms, to no effect at all. the mi28s then stopped, turned around, while still being shot by the cobras, and 1 shotted them with 30mms.
get Apaches, beat them at their own game.
Edited:
actually yeah the Apache beats the havok at just about everything except it has bigger rockets.
got apache last night :)
part 2 of why tactics:
dude rushes a spam of fastest warsaw apcs filled with motor strelki point blank to everything and unloads them.
and it works
kills everyone :(
One should look for weaknesses in more than just the unit specs. (WWIII wasn't going to be a trial of technology of tank vs. tank or fighter jet vs. fighter jet) How would a player employ those units into battle for example? Another aspect is that the higher-end U.S. units tend to be rather expensive, so when you lose them it could be potentially crippling.
Some of the unit omissions are indeed strange, but you'll have to ask Eugen about those.
Most likely they were using high-experience units then.
Was just in a match where I was trying to do another VDV raid, only issue was that anti-aircraft armor got in the way. The two helicopters crashed in the middle of some fields but the guy forgot about the VDV I had in there, stunned from the crash it took them a while to come to. I now had two undermanned wounded squads, I decided to move them towards his HQ. A passing recon helicopter spotted them and he took out one squad, here is where the badassery begins. A five man squad, all wounded took out two recon helicopters, two UH-1Ms, two APCs, and a squad of U.S Rifleman. This is why the VDV is badass. Quality got raped, not sure how.
I was there, they were max training lol. Like 300 per unit at that point.
I fucking love how spetsnaz goes into battle in fucking Hinds. Best goddamn investment ever.
Better then UH-1s.
Delta Force packed in Hueys can be pretty neat, they tear armour and infantry apart when they get in range.
Also I watched 8 VDV destroy 3 AH-1F's in quick succession today, that was 300 of his points down the plughole in a 1500 pt per player match.
Little gripe is how the devs made infantry just appear out of apcs. Would be much better if they actually came out of the apc.
How hard is it to learn the ropes of this? I've been thinking about buying it even though I haven't played many RTS games.
Whenever I play against high levels they never actually fight they just rush my spawn with all of their units and kill everything there. It's not even fucking fun. I'll have defenses too and they'll just run right through them with their superior "select everything, right click enemy" tactics.
It takes a bit of getting used to in your first match or two but once you figure out the mechanics it's a fun game. I play a few RTS games and I picked it up in the second match, so it might take you one or two but you'll grasp it pretty easily.
Ive never had that happen to me. You shouldn't have all your units at your spawn anyway, if you can't beat their main force, dent it so that its going to take another 5-10 minutes before they consider moving them forward again.
You can do this by:
Distracting them by blowing up command vehicles in undefended sectors
Blowing up their supply trucks
Damaging their vehicles with quick attacks then pulling back
Cutting off their reinforcement routes.
Infantry in Transport helicopters, Gunships and Artillery are the best at these roles. If it is "select everything, right click enemy" then blow up their blobs with artillery. Its not hard.
And for the love of god don't play against people who are 7-10 levels higher than you.
So outside of building this concept of a "deck" is there any Unit persistence between matches? Like grab an experienced gunship from match A and, assuming he survives the match, take him over to match B?
Not in MP
Before I go to bed Ill just post this.
In less than 2 minutes I had a foothold in the furthest reinforcement sector.
A minute later and my main force arrived. This is my new tactic in games of 3000 points or more now.
Whenever I see foxtrot I literally think of foxes with hats, guns and the like.
As Tac Error said, no, but to elaborate the decks are just selections of units you can spawn during a match. You don't buy units outside of games, just the ability to spawn them.
Yeah. So far a bunch of the shit i've seen them do can basically come down to spamming rocket arty immediately at spawn and trying to send choppers out to take command vehicles. I mean, it's just dishonorable. I like to have fun in my matches and I don't see the point in doing stupid shit like that.

I propose that FP should make a clan called the Anti Spam Coalition.
Edited:
We'll have a constitution and everything.
Right now I don't think there is anything in the game that can beat a well micro'd force of T-72Bs put into decent positions, backed up by T-55 AMV-1s and good AA, with artillery support. Throw in a havock to the mix and you are well and truly fucked.
At least in an open map like Three Miles'.
Ive wondered if they will host a Open Beta sometime or something unlike the standard apparent closed beta. I would personally like to see that.
They [the publishers] pretty much fucked it up and made the second beta (believe it was supposed to be open, originally a few weeks after the closed one) into a pre-order only beta.
I bought it. I know I'm going to regret it because I'm fucking terrible at RTS, but I was going to end up buying it at some point anyway.
I suck at RTSs like these too, Im usually nuts for getting elite units and making micromanagement attempts.
Man does it fail most of the time :(
destroyed warsaw fUCKS with a platoon of m113s and assorted infantry, 2 mbt-70s, 3 MUTTs in FAV and TOW configuration, and 2 heavy huey hogs + a m134 kiowa.
lost the mutts, mbt-70s, and a couple m113s but that was it.
ended being like 1000 kill points with only 399 lost.
huey hogs are kickass when used right, the kiowa shot down some hinds lol
Edited:
mutts killed like 4x their points worth though, blew the shit out of some mech. infantry
Edited:
the FAV mutt made a btr-70 route from .50 and m240 fire
The M901 is terrifying. That amazing accuracy and it can pen every single tank.
So it really seems like infantry, both mechanized and special forces is very viable in this game, which is pretty important for me, because I don't like online games just ending up in tank spam.
In games like Blitzkrieg and Men of War, standard infantry wasn't very viable for anything else than capturing points and dying, maybe suiciding to get a lone medium tank or something.
This game seems really interesting and tactically flexible, I just think I'll read a review on the singleplayer campaign before I buy the game.
a single 10 man special forces unit can kill 10 tanks attacking their position if they are in cover like woods and have a supply truck or two for rockets
What? Infantry in Men of War is basically the best thing on the field. With one spetznaz or sniper equipped with a rocket launcher and some grenades, you can basically destroy the entire tank force of an enemy, provided they're used to their full potenital
