I don't know if I'm convinced enough to buy the game to play the beta, but this game looks really interesting in its play style and subject matter. I'm really looking forward to a public demo.

The MBT-70 is best in 2 groups of 4, and I always have 12 M60A2E1 Starship's with them. Get a Recon chopper and send it forward. Watch as every tank you have fires ATGM's at a T-72 column.
And if they send Gunships, send your MBT-70's forward (they move at 60km/h) and blow them out of the sky with their mounted autocannons. Both of the tanks are super cheap too; the MBT-70 is 75 points, and the Starship is 35. (or 40 if you want to get the autocannon variant, which is still cheap anyway)
So is the multiplayer a fun aspect of this game or is it like any other online RTS, where people just spam the easiest/quickest and most pathetic tactic to win instead of having a good game?
I rarely play RTS online because of crap like that. Just no fun getting instantly steam rolled.
There's always "That guy" in any rts.
The matches are usually very long winded because it takes so long to move your force from one side of the map to the other, and you'll need to refuel vehicles. So its impossible to get steam rolled in 5 minutes without a chance of fighting them off.
There are no real "pathetic" tactics to speak of, both NATO and Pact get awesome toys and all of them have a counter. People who bitch about artillery are usually the ones who pack their entire army together in one nice neat bundle, and end up giving some player with a lot of arty a huge erection.
You'll always find some guy who practices 12 hours a day, knows every single nook and cranny of the game, and plays at his best even on casual public matches to validate his existence. However only cheap tactics I can think of are mass heli rush and mass arty, both are easy to counter though (however you'll probably lose your first batch of units since you didn't expect it).
Biggest problem is if you go up against people of a lot higher level when you are low level.
Abrams Crews are Gigantic Pussies.
OH LOOK ARTY SHOOTING AT US
ROUTE
OH LOOK ARTY CONTINUING TO SHOOT AT THE POSITION WE JUST LEFT
CONTINUE ROUTING
WOW WE'RE ALL THE WAY OFF THE POINT!
KEEP ROUTING
OH SHIT AT MISSILES
ROUTE BUT INSTEAD OF MOVING STAY EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE AND GET KILLED, FUCK THE COMMANDER ORDERS, HE'S A DOUCHE
NOW THE ENTIRE PLATOON'S DEAD
GUESS YOU WASTED 400 POINTS, DOUCHE.
I feel like my Gepards are the only reliable thing in my entire army.
To be honest, a mass rush/spam of any one unit is game over for the person trying to use it. If they invest so much in that one type of unit, then they won't have enough points to buy units capable of holding off a combined-arms attack. So the best thing to do in the case of an arty spam, for example, is to just keep pushing forward.
True, the elite forces were pretty good, but the regular cheap infantry coulden't do much more than fight the other guys cheap infantry and loose a lot of men in the progress, or do suicide runs on tanks.
I guess that is possible but also did I read that you get auto matched based on skill?
So if you play random pubbies you don't have to worry about playing against high level twats?
You have no idea how frustrating it was for me when it was happening to my Leopard 2s. I had artillery literally landing on and killing my infantry, but they didn't care. Meanwhile, 1-2km away, my Leopard 2s are pissing themselves. It is really frustrating when you go against someone that hides on their last 10-20% of the map, and all they do is spam infantry, tanks and artillery. Reinforcements for you take forever to arrive, and when they do, they are just to replace the current forces that were shelled beyond repair. Overextending to that distance is just too much.
The worst part it all. Before he turned into ultra-turtle, with his artillery behind where his reinforcements spawn, I RAPED him in actual combat, even with a worse deck. Then all he has to do is wait for me to cross the entire map, shell me to bits and taunt me in chat saying he found the better strategy.
Patch is out!
Wow, halving the Motorstrelci squads is a bit harsh.
Oh nooooooooo!
Motostrelci infantry units halved, Bastion ATGM (T-55AMV-1, T-62M & BMP-3) accuracy nerfed by 40%!
Oh well, at least they nerfed AAA autocannons' stress infliction on ground targets.
TL;DR Nerf soviets, buff NATO.
so pact has no effective cheapish at now?
-snip I can't read-
Did you host a game or did you join one? if you joined one they might have been playing on the previous build.
I think they decreased the size of the CSSR version they had the wrong stats before the patch and all that.
Ah okay, thought it was the Russians as well![]()
Are there paratroopers in this game because I always wanted to test the feasibility of an actual airborne assault in modern warfare
Nothing paradropped, but the setting is Cold War rather than modern warfare.
I really hate how accurate the anti-aircraft is in comparison to ATGMs from choppers. I had one Hind sneak up behind an AA Flakpanzer. I got off 2 ATGMs, both missed, the Flak, while moving, fires a burst and hits me one the first couple of shots.
There are heliborne troops. (Spetznaz with Mi-24) and others.
That's the point, AA guns have less range but can engage faster and AA missiles take much longer to engage but come closer to guaranteeing a kill from choppers at longer ranges.
Also I really wish there were airdrops, say airdrop 40 guys out of the back of a transport plane, or a couple airdrop tanks, that are not only in the game but are useless without this airdrop feature. Also vehicles can't even be loaded into Chinooks or Mi-26s which is kinda lame, since the BMD for example is built to be loaded into Mi-26s.
Sort of you can get transport choppers... but that's not what you mean i guess.
How did you get the scanline effect on your screen?
After reading a bit of this thread, you guys hooked me and my friend into it (curse you for creating this topic), but because I do live in cheap ass 3rd world country where even sunlight is so expensive, I've decided to do some research and look for some cheaper purchase source, as Steam is never one for me (sorry, but paying 200-300% more than in any retail shop in my local area is a bit too much for me).
I found a ... super low price on some gaming site of "my".
It says, that I can preorder it for 59,90 PLN, which is (with current currency prices on the market):
14,26 Euro or 18,77 USD...
Well, it's a bit of ...difference in price compared to the steam's one... By like 65% more or less o.O.
If someone is interested in this, here is the link:

They say, they are sending the product just after the release...
I did the research and Wargame: Zimna Wojna is indeed a polish version of this game(Wargame: Cold War) - I was worried due to the misleading translation of the title, though I shouldn't be, they are translating many titles not right they should be. Can't tell if it's PL only version though. Even though I'm from Poland I would prefer pure English version anytime.
This site can be trusted I guess, I've been visiting it for more like 5 years or so, but never bought anything.
Going to preorder it tomorrow.
Is the beta worth the pre-order?
IMO no
I'm glad they nerfed the AA, I'd have basically the same units as the opponent if not superior and he'd rush his AA tanks with the auto-cannons and have my tank crews pissing their pants and running away while my infantry would suffer heart attacks and die from the sound of THDUDUUTUHUTUUDUUTHUSUDUTUHUSUDUD!
When I finally get this game I would ask for an option to adjust the helicopters altitude in the next update, you can either set them low so they can fly under bridges and dodge AA, or fly high up and shell enemies with Rockets and Missles.
You could even go stealth with helicopters, having them hover behind trees or behind a building or something.
I have this new strategy when I play as the Warsaw pack. I send four helicopters filled with spetsnaz to the edge of the map and send them all the way up to the top. I unload them and send it to there base to destroy all their precises artillery. Works every time, but it sucks when they run out of missiles.
I really wish a game like this would add in a total war style turn based map and a proper meta game.
A turn based meta game provides weight to each skirmish and allows for a blend of long term strategy and tactics.
Rather than simply fighting in a cold war setting, you are actually fighting the cold war itself. Positioning troops throughout Europe and such.
It would also allow for interesting things like regional restrictions on where certain units come from.
Basically what I do, it's great if you can take out their command vehicle and take over their F.O.B.s at the same time, it's almost always a crippling blow.

I'd love to see more units from each of the countries beside the U.S.S.R and the U.S.A. What if I want an army of super Poles?
Edited:
Or German civil war 1980s edition.
Anyone else, post patch, having a bug where no effects are shown? Right now I'm playing on a laptop but I even tried raising the video settings to medium-high. For instance I would be able to see TOW missiles or artillery firing, and I could see a little black projectile, but that'd be it. They would impact and nothing would happen (visually) and there'd be no tracer in flight. Before the patch the effects of tracers would flicker a bit, but otherwise be fine, and explosions, fire, muzzleflashes, etc would all be visible.

Some piece of shit just had a single TOS-1 Buratino that was being constantly rearmed that couldn't be killed when 8 artillery pieces were firing at it while it was spotted. It would fire at a platoon of Leopard 2s or MBT-70s and the entire platoon would die. And there was an MT-LB Shturm killing my tanks while all 4 Leopard 2s and MBT-70s I had fired at it and a Leopard 1A3 platoon of 4 was sitting up on a hill firing from about a km away.
The fuck is this shit.
It's what happens when you are in build mode.
Ahhhh. Now I know why I don't see the scanlines, I had "show production menu" ticked on.
Wargame thinks this is 1269 meters.

Unlocked the Malkas and noticed you can only have 8 of them "that's kinda lame" I thought.
And then I used them.
Jesus Christ horrifying.
