GME is decent if you can catch it at a time when 12-year-olds with $5 mics aren't swarming the place.

I've noticed the same thing, actually, though I've still had no problem deploying even the 1.5l successfully. I really hope ACF doesn't turn into a customized addon that's different on each server; that'd just muck things up.
Glad I'm not the only one noticing that. Yeah, GME build makes them REALLY weak for some odd reason. Maybe my cars are just too heavy. The smallest working one I've ever built weighs in at about 1250 pounds or so. Chassis at 500, hub plates at 125, wheels at 125, 3.0L I6 diesel and small 4-speed gearbox in the back, jeepseat, and a bunch of 1-weight body parts.

Maybe they modify the lua scripts to make it more difficult perhaps?

Are there any wiki's or tutorial videos for making your first car?

I always seem to struggle to get it going over 10mph and actually turning. Also I can never get any power when going up hills, my wheels just spin and I fall down. I am using the tractor wheels so surely I should get traction?

GGG was the founding community of ACF, and it's pretty stable.

On traction, I've found 4WD works pretty well. I do it through a ballsocket between same side front and rear tires, settings -45 and 45 with free movement checked. Lets the wheels steer the car but also transmits power to them.

If you don't have LUA wheels, I do suggest you get them. Go to the "Post your current WIP"-thread and get the MakeSpherical tool. (http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1160473 ) Use it in combination with the "physprop_material jalopytire" (or jeeptire). Will get you shtloads of more grip/traction.
Also, that thread contains some pretty nice tutorials in the first post when it comes to making cars etc..

Any reason why my vehicles no longer go in a straight line? They were fine before, i presume the update? I thought it was just the new ones I were building but I used an adv dupe of one i knew that worked and had the same problem. Whenever I give it any amount of power it seems to pull to one side.

Ok I downloaded with the help of a friend and it didn't work?
I have everything in the browse folders but I don't have ANY ACF usage. I can't spawn working guns or engines or Gearboxes. Please help.

I have asked people and told them what I have done and they couldn't figure out what I did wrong or how to help.

    Engines and gearboxes don't work.
I have a chip that gives me throttle, I attach and wire everything properly, but it seems that my gearboxes autoclutch and I can't take it off. So ACF is broken. Engines don't work.
Jesus christ. I can't make anything move because of this autoclutch bullshit. Fix this please.

Works fine for me. If the engine just revs and the car never moves you either A: Broke a link, B: Forgot to make a link, or C: Chose a gearbox too weak for the engine.

I tried again, LINKED EVERYTHING TOGETHER, MEDIUM GEARBOX ON A 2.7 LITER I4 AND THE WHEELS SPUN FOR ABOUT ONE SECOND AND THEN DIDN'T. ACF ENGINES DO NOT WORK. GEARBOXES DO NOT WORK. FIX THIS.

They work just fine. Try revving the engine or something, and make sure that your driveshafts aren't being overstressed or they'll break. Also, lay off the capslock.

They DONT WORK FINE. Any gearbox, revved maximim, how do you overstretch a driveshaft in the first place, this mod doesn't work it needs to be fixed.

Edit: I kind of give up. The only reason I play garrysmod is for this and it doesn't work so I sort of feel like not playing garrysmod anymore. Sorry for wasting your time. Deleting garrysmod now...

Yelling about it isn't going to get us anywhere. The majority of us have 0 trouble with it, so the issue is not with the addon itself but something local to your installation. Maybe the download corrupted, maybe you misread the directions, maybe you installed the DEV folder, maybe there's a conflict with another addon.

By overstretch he means take the angles too far. ACF drivetrains are limited as to the angles the various components can be to each other, and if you take them beyond this angle the driveshaft will snap. I've had it happen to contraptions after flipping them over a few times.

Edit: I kind of give up. The only reason I play garrysmod is for this and it doesn't work so I sort of feel like not playing garrysmod anymore. Sorry for wasting your time. Deleting garrysmod now...

It doesn't matter anyway. I haven't ever gotten anywhere with ACF so I assume I can't make anything with it and it's the only reason I play garrysmod. So I am deleting it off of steam and all of my files. Please it doesn't matter it'll never work for me. I don't have the patience or mental stability to do anything. Infact I belive I am going to go kill myself.

how do you use the guns?

i know you have to link a gun to an ammo box with the corresponding ammo....but i have no idea what to do after that.

what setup is needed to fire something?

Link gun to ammo, wire a toggled button to the ammo and press it, then wire a non-toggled button to the gun's "Fire" input. Hit the non-toggled button and you will get a bang!

what exactly are the inputs/outputs that need to be lined between the ammo box and the gun?

linking the buttons are good, but the ammo/gun connection is leaving me stumped.

(never used wire mod for stuff like this before)

    *edit*
nvm. brain derped hard. was thinking "wire" when i should have been thinking "ACF"

Great mod! Brought me back to GMod. Too bad real gearboxes will never work within this old physics engine. Goodbye beloved thruster engines.

The clutch tends to behave oddly sometimes. Instead of a limited slip they seem to switch between open and close. Not sure if it's a problem with my contraptions or a real bug.

In addition it would be pretty neat to have some real inline-gearboxes. Just like this one (directly flanged to the engine):

Only suggestion I would like is for a sound toggle on the inputs, Sometimes I want a little roar with my beefy engine.

I use ACF regularly and enjoy it how it is though.

Yes you are. The linking tool is the "ACF menu" tool, under right mouse button. It's written in the description of tool.

Check the links between your drive wheels. Failing that, ballsocket the rears to the fronts and it should stop pulling.

Another thing to check that prevented me from going anywhere: don't overestimate your engines, keep your starting ratios low. I couldn't move because I kept my ratios at 1, thinking my engines could take it. It doesn't work that way.

Just an idea, it'd be nice if the gear boxes handled like E2's do, for example:

You pull out the ACFTool, there wouldn't be any settings, but right clicking on the gear box would open up it's particular ratios for editing. That way you wouldn't have to worry about matching the sliders in the context menu to match something infront of you. Or if you just duped it and it has no ratios displayed for some reason..

I'm also not convinced with the RPM limits on some of these petrol engines. I don't know a single american V8 that rev limits at 3K. And a 5.7 liter V6 that doesn't even reach 8000 rpm.. I dunno, they don't feel like the have the oomph some sports cars would usually have.
