What was your very first *nix distro? What version was it?
Mine was Ubuntu 9.04. I was 15 years old, and I had used Windows all of my previous life. Back then, setting up a dual-boot was tricky, so I went straight from Windows to Linux. I must say, it was a steep learning-curve, but I'm immensely grateful for my naive decision.

Fedora 12 on my server, realised it was way too bloated for my needs and switched to Arch

How was your experience? 11.10 is definitely more user-friendly.

ubuntu is much more userfriendly now, but I don't like the unity interface. ( it feels very bloated )
I usually stick with openbox (its very lightweight clean and fast)

Ubuntu something or other last year, then I tried Arch and went back to Ubuntu 11.10 which I'm on now.

When I was learning computers, I had a guy over the internet show me a distro called ProMepis. This is my first time using a linux distro, I've learned to setup Apache on it with FTP. It took 6 hours to install it on a old compaq, this was in 2004.
I've had access to suse in 2000 or 2001, hard to remember. But couldn't figure out how to install it, but that's the first linux I've looked into. I was 8-9 years old when I tried to install it :P

I have no idea. I've remember seeing tux on a computer I used in the 90s, so I probably used it back then, but the first distro I remember using was Ubuntu 8.10.

Technically I'd say Mandrake 7.1, but I was only a kid. My first real distro was Ubuntu 8.04.

Redhat 5... That thing wasn't even stable yet. Redhat 7 was the first one that actually worked for me without dad coming in and having to discuss terms of use with the damned thing though.
I loved Redhat 7.

Some version of Ubuntu. I remember freaking out because I messed up he dual boot :p

Remember, it doesn't matter what order you install it in, but you have to make sure that the drive/partition containing the bootloader isn't seen or touched by windows, cause windows will eat it and it will become a major pain to make dualbooting work.

Oh god, that must've been ages ago, i think it was called Kanotix (a derative of Knoppix?) - found it on a computer magazine CD and got really curious

Probably an old redhat build. Redhat 7 was my favorite... Primarily cause it actually worked and could be used as more than a "hey look what I can do" type thing.

An old version of Fedora(back when it was called Fedora Core) don't remember exactly which one, maybe 3 or 4?

About a month ago I installed arch on a virtual machine, did some stuff, and overall managed pretty well. Now I'm considering doing an actual installation.

Pretty much worth it. I update once a week or so (use to be daily), nice to have latest stuff, especially as a dev.

First distro I used seriously was Red Hat Linux 9, way too long ago.
Linux has come a long way since then. How time flies.

I started out using one of the older versions of Ubuntu in VMWare Workstation, then later on moved on to trying shit out in Microsoft Virtual PC, then VirtualBox. Then I finally decided to install it, and now I'm using Gentoo.

Ubuntu Linux 7.10 'Gusty Gibbion' In 2008 I was . . 11 years old. Installed it myself, and followed a bunch of guides got wine setup installed ventrilo and CoD4. Played on linux with my clanmates then got tired of having to do extensive modifications to get new games to work so I did a dual-boot then got a new harddrive were now in 2011 did a dual-boot with 11.10 and win7 ulitmate 64-bit, and I hate Unity so I did some uninstalling and were now back on GNOME 2 after downgrading GTK.

Ubuntu 7.04 "Fiesty Fawn".
It was August of 2007, and I was interested in other operating systems besides Windows. I got a Hackintosh up and running flawlessly, so my next challenge was Linux. I saw a kid in my 2002 Job Corps class setup YellowDog on a new PPC Mac, but Linux seemed very foreign to me having never used anything but OS 7.x ~ 10.4 (X) and Windows 3.11 ~ Vista. Vista turned me off with how bloated and sluggish it was, so I googled for an easy-to-use Linux, and Ubuntu flooded my search results. The Idea of a LiveCD was new to me, and I was in awe to see a fully-functional OS boot from an optical disc. I had never knew such a thing was even possible. I installed it from the LiveCD GUI, and rebooted. To my surprise, everything booted up fine, wireless and graphics worked out of the box, and I was a happy man. I even got my girlfriend at the time to like it with some mild configurations. I had everything I needed for it to be the "guest PC" setup in the livingroom. It was virus and malware resistant, yet had everything needed for daily use. Firefox, aMSN, XMMS for music with Winamp 2.x skin support, OpenOffice... Linux was the shit! :D
Just think... If Windows Vista had been as good as Windows 7 upon release, I might not have discovered how wonderful Linux is. Now I can't even fathom doing my PC repair tasks without the help of my Multiboot USB and DVD distros!

Ohh, that must be Knoppix. I do not remember when I begin to use linux or why I did that. I guess it was mostly because I got some evil virus on the computer. I didn't like Knoppix back then, I think I used it because I didn't found something else that had Swedish language.
