Fucking finally. This is my first year in cross country so I'm pretty shitty, my PR is 23:55 for a 5k. I don't run miles often but I think for just one mile I can run like 6:45 if I'm racing it. Maybe faster depending on the conditions.
I run by myself as a hobby, mainly long distances. I ran my first half marathon last summer in 1:36. Thats 7,3 min /mile for 1,5 hours straight.

My 5k time is 18:40 and i run about a 5:20 mile and i'm still on JV
Getting under the weather. I lost my voice and I tried running the other day and I've been getting short winded after the first mile which was extremely disappointing.
Find trails, trust me, it makes running more enjoyable.

As a senior distance runner, let me tell you this. Keep running. Log your miles. You won't believe how much it can assist you. Figure out how many miles a week your coach makes you run. After you've figured that out, raise the mileage yourself slowly. It has been proven that higher mileage = DRASTICALLY decreased times. This year I went from 25 miles a week to doing 45 a week in the summer and I went from 20:09 -> 17:47. In one damn year.

Depends what is "bottlenecking" your time. If it's vo2 max, then do HIIT, right?
I run a 19:40. My best time for a mile ever has been a 5:12, but I don't run distances that fast. I'm 8th on the team, but the next person up runs an 18:20. Luckily, there is a senior on Varsity, and I should have a good 3 years as a varsity runner.
Yeah that's what I'm planning. I live in MN where it snows a lot, so I'm not going to bother running this winter, but I am doing nordic skiing for the first time which should be fun, but once it warms up, I'll start logging them on my school's flotrack group thing.
Btw does anyone get a really strong lower back pain while running with fast pace? It's annoying.
Don't ignore it, figure out why it happens.
It's in the muscles, not the spine so it's not serious that serious that it'd need a doctor. It doesn't bother me much after running, it's only there during the run. Some people get it when they begin running, but for me this doesn't seem to go away.
Maybe you're leaning too far forward? Like instead of leaning, you're bending and hunched?
You're stiffening your muscles or running in a bad posture. I used to get achy shoulders when I ran, but I loosened my running style and it went away. Next time you go for a run try to "run easy" if you know what I mean.
Try different postures and loosen up. You're most likely too stiff in the upper body, or your strides aren't concurrent.
Trying doing a light jog and keep increasing your pace to see when the pain starts. From there, you should be able to figure out what's wrong.
Do more core exercises like sit-ups and all that malarky, pain means either you're doing something wrong or your body can't handle the level of exercise you're doing to it
Got up to being able to run for about an hour by the end of the summer, as soon as I got to uni I sacked it off for some reason or another

Except I've kinda given up on distance these days, it gets boring quickly (also makes you look sickly thin). I'm focusing more on speed at lower distances now.
Just had the state meet today, my team got second, fuck yeah. I didn't race, but it was still pretty cool.
I run a few times a week, and sometimes I get pain in the arch of my left foot and my let hip area.
I was diagnosed with hip impingement last year but it went away, and I know how it felt. This year I got hip pain again, but it was in a different area. Last time the pain was in the hip abductor area on the side, and this time it's in my lower back area towards the top of my hips. It hurts especially when I tuck my butt out, for squats and such. anyone experience anything like this?
also my foot pain is strange, I asked my school's trainers and they said it might be plantar fasciitis, but don't wake up with any foot pain at all. It only occurs when i'm running long distance.

I try to do 1,5km under 5 mins; 3km under 15 mins.
I did marathons n shit for like a month, but then I just couldn't be fucked anymore, focused on weightlifting. Maybe If I decide to go back down to low bodyfat, i'll go for it again.
Do you have flat feet or something? Try getting an insole thing for your shoes. Also try strengthening your core muscles.

I HIGHLY DOUBT that you did marathons.
Maybe 5ks or some shit like that, but i doubt you can just pick up and run 26.2 miles.
i have arched feet and i started using insoles for my casual and running shoes. it kinda helps but I still get pain every once in a while
Marathon isn't that hard even if you havent ran that much. It all depends of the pace. Basically if you can run for 30 minutes with a constant pace, in theory you are physically able to complete a marathon, altho you will slow down at certain points. The rest depends of your mental determination.
But still like he said, you don't just "do marathons n shit for a month". You don't just "do a few of em" just like that. It's an extremely stressfull several hour run. If you do several marathons in a month you're a real badass. My first half took a week to recover, but that was just because I ran faster than my body wanted, it was incredibly painful from the beginning to the end.
Try minimalist shoes like vibrams. They're not for everyone, but they can help people with with foot problems. Only thing is with minimalists is that you have to run right, you're supposed to land on your forefoot.

Season just started, I didn't run at all over the summer, so I'm not doing very well.
