Thanks. I'll post a video if I can get DXtory or Fraps running.

Wow, you found it, I thought it was lost in the internet, hah.
Apologies if late or something, but has csgo devs confirmed a date for the Public Beta or is that still speculation
i only have about 500 hours on CSS :(
Over 1000 hours on TF2 though
And MW2... oh boy that game got me hooked big time

Please, fraps and DXtory are crap compared to it.
The integrated recording software is much better.

Just curious.
I know this is supposed t be running on the PORTAL 2 version of the Source Engine, but does anyone know if CS:GO will feature ambient occlusion?
Dota 2 does, so yes
I thought DOTA 2 was running on a different version of the engine.
Anyways, thanks for the answer.
I'm more interested in whether the CSGO sdk will include world portal entities.
Chet hasn't answered my mail yet :smith:
Yeah they're going to use it in enclosed maps to make some hallways slightly shorter than ones next to it, just to fuck with people's perception.
It'd be awesome. Just imagine the potential for utter mindfuck maps.
Not to mention a remake of the classic map 5D Space from Marathon.
Just putting this out there, I have not noticed any ambient occlusion in any source games. I haven't played DOTA 2, but CS:GO doesn't have AO as far as I've seen.
If it's in Dota 2, it will be in CSGO; CSGO is just in a heavier beta.
Dota 2 was the first source game to introduce AO.![]()
Definitely going to be an interesting utility competitively.
850$ for Molotov? That kills the opportunity of buying one in the pistol round!
Depends if you're playing on casual or classic.
Casual currently gives you $2000, enough to buy an UMP-45 (pistol round is now pistol and SMG round).
Classic/Competitive gives you $800; pistol round intact.
Edited:
ps - valve pls add bizon it looks cool and i liked it in your pax build
I don't see how a molotov can be more expensive than a grenade.
Introduce crafting system!!
Make Molotov.
hi-tech molotov, took only 8 years to be designed.
Game balance..
So is this in open beta yet or is anyone trying to get started just lost?
It's not in open beta. Right now they're sitting on their ass and doing nothing with it.
I hope that the pub scene is a bit better in GO. You average pub server in CS:S is unfun bullshit that's usually your team of 13 players vs 14 or so well-entrenched enemies armed with HE Nades, Flashbangs and good AK/M4 skills, which makes your average pub a slaughter in their favor. 1.6 is just a void filled with redirects to empty and sleazy Chinese/Vietnamese/Eastern European pirated servers. Bots are really the only way to have fun with the game at this point unless you're insane enough to go to the ridiculously conservative "e-sports" communities.
Trust me it's very OP strategically-speaking.
The molotov affects a HUGE area plus it serves as a faux-smoke screen and lasts for awhile. If you aim it right, you can pretty much cut off the whole entire indoors area of cs_dust1, which can be a massive constrain on the terrorists.
That's what Valve pretty much stated it as; an area-blocker that actually hurts. Smokes hide escapes or shots, molotovs deny spaces to the opposing team with the threat of damage. Personally, I think of it as something that forces a player to adapt: if the short route is blocked off by flames, do you risk waiting for them to go out and have an enemy flank you, or do you go an alternate route ASAP and risk running into a bulk of enemies?
You're missing one big thing; CS fans HATE adapting. If you alter even one thing that will affect their l33t pro perfect strategies, they'll lose their shit and demand Valve change it back.
Oh trust me, I know. I was present during the engine change shitstorm and how people accused the game of becoming 'Team Fortress 2 kidshit' among other things for mere phong additions and killcams (the latter being toggleable in the menu anyway). I see GO as Valve's (or Turtle Rock's, rather) attempt at revitalizing Counter-Strike finally, and since it doesn't interfere with the previous games, the bitchers can just shut up and go back to those if they so choose.
But of course, it's the internet; they're going to slither into CS:GO and complain, complain, complain anyway.
It lasts like 5 seconds
Which is still a relatively major effect on combat
Not enough to be "omg valve nerf pls"
Yeah same. It works very well for that reason too, but because it can alter a round's flow, it really does need to be pretty expensive. At least until the community does enough testing w/ it.
Edited:
No it shouldn't be nerfed. It's pretty good the way it is.
But it does need to be expensive. It works very well without obstructing gameplay that way.
What does a UMP cost?
Edited:
I agree with you, and the molotov is an interesting addition to the game. You can for example throw one of them where you think the CTs are coming form when defusing the bomb.
Does anyone know how much damage which is dealt if I walk over a molotov as fast as possible?
Geez. Double post-auto-edit-facepunch-fail
You lose less than 5 hp every second if I remember correctly. But you move really slowly while in the flame zone (like in Left 4 Dead for example).
$1500
5 sec is a lot once the bomb has been down for like 12 sec.
