Anyone have any good tips for me? Thinking about the Asus Transformer.
Asus Transformer seems to be the most popular. I'd personally recommend the Xoom since it has phenomenal build quality, but the screen isn't IPS and hence will look pretty poor for color vibrance. Of course, I own a Xoom so I'm biased. The best two, objectively, are the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Transformer. Both have great quality screens.
Get the Thinkpad Tablet from Lenovo. If you are a student, the N-Trig Digitizer pen is amazing for notes and for drawing. The tablet itself is great. It hasn't been rooted yet, but hopefully it will be in the future.
Thanks, I think I will be going for the Transformer.
You will not be disappointed.
get the transformer prime, not the transformer
The prime is the newer model and is the first quad core tablet on the market
just a fyi.
transformer prime is reportedly great and has ipad build quality, should be your first choice
I'd hold off until Google releases the Nexus tablet that they said they're building, apparently it is the "first true iPad competitor" from the guys at Google.
I just bought an Galaxy Tablet, very nice quality.
Who cares when there's one already on the market made by Asus.
I was thinking of buying the Acer Iconia A500 on special at my local tech shop for $299. It has great specs for it's price. 1gb dual core tegra processor, 1gb ram, 16gb in built memory, wireless not 3g.
The Acer Iconia A501 comes with 3G.
Bought a Transformer, really satisfied with it even with the Prime around.
You only need the prime if you want more gaming power
I got my Transformer before the Prime was announced, let alone released, and have to say that I've had no issues with it - it can do 1080p already and I basically use it for web browsing and youtube, along with schoolwork on it. Have to say, the only reason that I'd want the prime is due to the build quality apparently being better, as build quality is the one issue with my Transformer. (and that's only due to general feel, it could be a bit more sturdy)
I'd definitely recommend considering it as a tablet / netbook, but if you want a dedicated tablet, the Galaxy Tab is probably better. (I've not used one, just a shot in the dark)
transformer is pretty nice, and it has a physical keyboard, assuming you get it together
I picked up the Transformer today with the physical keyboard. And I have to say this thing is great. Very smooth, only thing lacking is build quality but it doesnt feel cheap and plasticy in my opinion. The keyboard makes it a lot easyer for me since I do not like the on-screen keyboard other Smartphones/Tablets utilizes. Overall its just a great tablet.
Have the first Transformer, and I love it.
Since the Prime is a faster, quad core version of the original, I would highly recommend getting it.
I'd agree with that but what happens if and when Asus creates the first Nexus tablet? They've strongly hinted at an "iPad killer" and Google knows that Asus is their best option.
Transformer owner here, love the device. For web browsing and YouTube it is fantastic.
Just a question, but has anyone here managed to actually flatten the battery of their transformer? The lowest that I've ever got on mine was 20%, and that was after something like a week without recharging, and I use mine pretty intensively.
My birthday is on the 2nd and I have 100 dollars left over from Christmas. I'll get 200 or 300 dollars for my birthday. I was thinking about either getting a tablet or a laptop (For college) if I get a tablet, my parents may not buy me a laptop for when I graduate and go off to college.
I got an original Transformer for Christmas, it's great. Getting the keyboard or not is your choice, but the tablet itself is awesome quality.
A friend of mine got an iPad 2.
Well his dad did, and I urged to get an Android Tablet instead...
But either way, the iPad 2 is pretty good.
I'd go for an Android tablet because of the same reasons why I would go for an Android Phone over an the iPhone.
I bought an HP Touchpad for xmas, even though HP won't be making any more of the tablets until the end of 2012, they still update the original OS (webOS) and I can dual-boot android on it, and I can run ubuntu on it. very nice, it also has a dual core 1.2 ghz processor, which is safe to overclock to 1.7ghz when youre in android.
Also, the only reason I got it was because I'm used to webOS (Palm pre, etc) and you can overclock webOS to 1.9ghz, but android you can overclock to 1.7ghz w/ setCPU
The title assumes that he's already going for an android tablet![]()
Are you talking about the Ubuntu chroot? Or is there a better way they've found to natively run linux on it?
nope, still with the iPad 2...
sadly still just ubuntu chroot, its still better than nothing imho :)
im loving the android though!
I think he's saying that OP was never considering an iPad.
quick question about the prime, will it eventually be able to be bootloaded
i have never had an android device before, but i really want the transformer prime
bootloaded? You mean so the bootloader is unlocked? ASUS are apparently making a program to unlock it
You like books (and comics) good support, and a good ecosystem (video streaming, cloud, etc)? Kindle Fire?
Want something more like a PC? Asus Transformer.
Guys, guys, guys, the iPad 2 is so good!
I feel so poor posting from my lowly transformer!
Im getting the Transformer Prime on UK release next week. I cant wait
The Transformer is great. Been using it for the past 2 weeks or so now and I love it.
Oh wait, I have to jailbreak to obtain the apps I want
