Just made a price comparison site (PAYG) comparing GiffGaff (The phone network) to lots of other networks. My first practice in using jQuery.

Nothing groundbreaking really. We put a little tongue in cheek message on the page along with a couple cute characters that one of our illustrators did. Also put a discount code on the page and links back to the main store categories. Our audience is mostly women so I would be willing to bet the fact that there are crying cartoon bears on the page is a big factor hahaha.

The last time I posted here, I mentioned using the HTML5 file reader to parse BSP files. The project has matured quite a bit, but it's still far from ready.

This is a fully client-side BSP entity editor in the web


Everything works as far as the filtering and editing goes, I just need to write a saving method so that the BSP file can be reassembled with the changes. The blue highlighted entity in the picture is the selected entity. The green highlighted entities are related as they're children of the selected entity.

I've started using AngularJS to manage the application and it is just fantastic. I highly recommend checking it out if you're building something with a lot of interactive data; or one of the many other JavaScript MVC frameworks. Also, I found a neat binary reading js library called DataStream.js which allows you to read in c-style structs. It made the parsing process much, much more easy going.

I'll be adding this to my github soon, once this tool is closer to finished. I feel like I should be posting this in the programming waywo.

Google chrome and Dropbox together makes the navigation bar 2-lined. No idea why. Works fine locally and in other browsers.

Anyways, I would like some feedback.

It seems whenever I set a line-height value for button that match the height of the button its always a bit off.

The button has no padding either, I removed it.

Either blame chrome or windows 8.

Pretty much finished my 'GiffGaff Price Comparison' site. Compares prices from most of the main PAYG networks to GiffGaff prices.

Used Bootstrap with jQuery and prettyPhoto (for lightbox iframes). I probably could have done it better but it's my first time actually using jQuery/javascript myself, worked out pretty well!

The website bounces when the slideshow changes slide, also you should add some padding on the bottom with your copyright info, it looks bad.

Fixed the bouncing, still working on footer not sure if I should make a sitemap. What kind of pattern would you guys suggest?

And how good it feels when you discover that when run through gzip, your spritesheet weighs slightly half of the gzipped PNG's weight. Owned ya, PNG.

How does that work? Not being a dick, legitimately curious. One of the projects I'm working on I had to put on hold for a while because of something image size related.

You can set up your server to send your content compressed as gzip. All browsers support it.

Oh, thanks for the reply. I probably should have specified what I was referring to though; how does a gzipped svg have a lighter weight than a gzipped png, if the non-gzipped svg is larger than the non-gzipped png?
