The default software is shit from what I've heard, but there's already a nearly 100% working ICS build, thanks to kernel and driver stuff from nVidia.

If you're willing to flash a custom ROM, I think it's great value.

Of course, I don't know about the Austrian phone market, but sale-point sells it international, for 270EUR. So maybe there's something better for your range.

So I received my Galaxy S2 this morning, never used a smartphone before mind you

I can get around most things but there's one thing that bugs me: it looks like the task manager or whatever does NOT list what's actually running in the background. I don't see Twitter or Gmail as currently being executed, but I do receive the notifications.

So what's up with that?

You dont need a task manager for Android, Android will automatically close programs when it needs memory. If anythings using battery you can check in the battery monitor in settings>about phone

You're essentially using more battery in killing apps with the task killer than letting the apps run on free RAM which uses little to no battery.

Mine can go with 710 MHz for sure, have tried 749 but it made it reboot three times in a row in under 10 minutes once so I lowered it. No problems ever since.

Your phone has 1GB of ram and a Dual-Core 1.2GHz processor, you don't need to task kill anything. As in Android will do it for you.
