Reading their posts on the forum gives great insight as to what thoughts went into the different design decisions, it's not like it was just done for the sake of it.
I just wanted them to at least stick to the 'canon' regarding things like that. Things like the turret i can understand a little more, but just aesthetic things like the eyes and the alien grunt are a little different. Just a remake of HL1 with more detail would of been great.
Then you've been following the wrong mod.
Black Mesa is a self-proclaimed "total conversion" remake, more clearly defined by them on the wiki as being an "entirely new game with new content"
I said this to friends at the time when I first watched the gameplay footage, but my problem with the voice acting is they're parodying the HL grunts way of speaking - itself a parody of military chatter. They're hamming up a performance that was hammed up once already, and it's just too much ham.
whatever it's not the end of the world
that ghostbuster gun
I will enjoy the game when it is out though. It looks great so far.
I'm actually feeling a lot more positive about the mod after seeing that video, despite all the negativity about it, while I dont agree with some of the changes, I still think the mod looks really solid and I'm actually getting pumped for it again.
I don't get the whining about how it's not exactly the same as the original.
Have some 1080p screenshots
Unfortunately black levels still crushed though, but it's easier to make things out
I actually love the voice acting, just...some of the voices need to be fucking filtered. How stupid would it be if you heard a Marine's voice through his mask clear as day?
It's forgiveable though, not a big deal, but it would be nice to have. I also can't wait to hear the voice actor for the one Soldier who wants to dump Freeman's body and kill him. That guy sounded like he belonged in some kind of Mafia group.
Some of those pics up there remind me of Deus Ex by the way, but that's only because of the crushing of course.
So, we are still going to get more media, but not via Facebook like originally planned.
Apparently DasBoSchitt was the source of the 1080p version of the video according to someone on the BMS forums.
For example, is there any reason for bullsquid to have their eyes moved? It doesn't affect gameplay and it looks silly if you're used to the "old" bullsquid.
The HECU grunts not sounding exactly the same isn't bad, it's that their new voices sound silly (at least, to me, during the "he's been killin' my buddies" dialogue- weird emphasis there).
I'm just playing devils advocate here- I'll play the mod with any changes they make, since it's a free mod that remakes one of my favorite games.
(This next part is for everyone in the thread, not just you TMBG)
If you think something should be done differently, then change it post release yourself; there's nothing stopping you. You are not entitled a voice in the development of this mod as you did not spend years working on it in your spare time for zero money. Bitching about little things like iron sites (that are TOGGLEABLE for god sake) and voices without radio filters (Which you can add in literally a couple of seconds in any audio editing software) will only serve to piss the developers off moreso than the self righteous community critiquing the development already has. Open your minds, let them do their thing, judge it once it's complete and released. You people are like children and I can definitely see why the developers are starting to get frustrated and impatient (Which some of you even had the nerve to complain about as well!)
HL1 grunts have a radio filter, HL2 & the Episodes have a filter too (different, but still).
I can live without, but it's almost like a tradition for the baddies to have radio voices :(
Narrow band radio makes the voices sound detached, frightening, almost non-human. It's an artistic thing.
I think I've spotted gibbing in the earlier parts of the video around 40-45 seconds, when he throws the first grenade I think a leg or an arm flys off one of the marines, and the marine he shoots around 50 seconds in, his Beret (hat) came off.
You may have to adjust the brightness on the video to see these.
Valvetime butt hurt that they had it removed instead of asking them to remove it
For those who think the song that played didn't fit:
From Joel Nielsen on Facebook
meh, I like valvetime.
also those who say the voices in HL1 would be bad without the disortion, No. Go play opposingforce.
Even Valvetime.net decided to give the finger to BMS team.
EDIT : if you look at the topics, Valvetimet.net really gave the finger to BMS team... They won't cover the mod any more ^^
I can't believe the communication is so bad with this BMS team that they alienated everyone.
And this valvetime stuff seems to be a miscommunication, Stormseeker asked a supposed editor from valvetime to delay the article for the time being and take the video down, and the guy either wasn't an editor, or disregarded it and uploaded it anyway.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to protect your stuff, especially if you didn't want people to see it yet.
If you actually listen to them, they sound quite different, and JSJ has a much wider range of emotion than the original soldiers.
throw down time.
This is turning into massive bullsh*t. They seem to suffer so much from bipolar disorder that I won't be surprised if I wake up tomorrow and I learn that they've deleted all their content....
I think he's saying the cod sights are better
i think black mesa community may be the worst community i have ever seen
and the game's not even out yet.
the game looks fuckin' great and i can't wait to play it.
You must not have seen many internet communities then.
I think I can almost understand that post.
