They didn't sent it to them, someone else did. It wasn't approved by the rest of the team.
They didn't sent it to them, someone else did. It wasn't approved by the rest of the team.
so they didn't ask valvetime to take it down once it was up and instead 1. promoted it because they realized it gained them popularity and discussion about black mesa, then 2. reported it to get taken down which, again, cost valvetime a chance at youtube promotion and potentially a ban if youtube wanted to.
it's a dick move no matter how you cut it.
Because ValveTime put it up without the dev's permission, after they were told not to UPLOAD it by the BMS Devs. So they forced it down.
aaaaaand promoted it because it gained them popularity instead of not talking about it.
valvetime's leak was the best thing to happen to this mod that has a continuously dying fanbase due to the length of development time.
Here is the reason why
They also might re-record a new version of that gameplay with some of the feedback addressed.
but it drummed up black mesa's publicity too because they dont release a respectable amount of content for the vaporware-levels of time its taken them to finish this mod.
the devs are truly the worst at this. they continue to "stop social campaigns" and such because of negative feedback, but don't understand that any feedback at all is discussion of their work which is what they need. then they remove content that they "intended to show everyone anyway" (which i honestly do not believe) by dicking over another company that one of their own devs leaked the info to anyway.
Well according to this,

The video may not have been released to the public until a week before release.
Not saying that was the plan, but it was one thing they considered.
That's not really the root of the problem. Raminator didn't just "report" the video. He filed a copyright infringement notice against Valve Time. Do any research on it and you'll find DMCA abuse is a pretty big problem on YouTube given Google's "take down video first, ask questions later" approach to the policy. I'm willing to bet Raminator is all too aware of it. He's put Valve Time's whole YouTube channel in jeopardy literally two strikes away from being banned when he (or anyone on the Black Mesa team) could have simply taken the respectable route of, you know, just asking to take the video down. I don't see anyone rebutting Smash's claim that they didn't ask first.
I see very little justification in choosing this manner to take down the video. It's an outright malicious act just for some petty revenge, yet it's the Valve community and Valve Time staff members entirely unrelated to the incident that would get hit worst. I happen to know the guy who does the narration for all of Valve Time's videos (an e-aquantance, if you will, from the Zombie Master days) and I'd hate to see his efforts done entirely for the community go to waste just because of a dumb Black Mesa video war.
from what I have gathered from links posted over the last few pages: the video was leaked to them, they asked the devs if it was legit and they said yes, then VT said "so can we share it" to which the devs replied "no" and VT said "too late!! we already uploaded it"
according to Ram they've smoothed things over with the Admins at Valve Time.

This is THEIR mod, not the communities. Everybody needs to stop thinking they have a say in the development and let them complete it to their standards. They are not obligated to ask us what we think, they are not obligated to make the game we want, they are doing this in their SPARE TIME, while the community spends their spare time bitching about how everything is wrong expecting their every plea and expectation to be met.
You guys really need to understand this: YOU DO NOT GET A SAY IN THE DEVELOPMENT UNLESS THE DEVELOPER SO CHOOSES. If you think it could be done better then make it better yourself. If you have time to critique you have time to create.
This is starting to make me pretty irate, as I can see the toll all this negativity is having on the developers; I fear if we keep pushing them the mod will never get released as many people have joked.
So once more, everyone, quit your whining.
This is true, I remember them saying they were doing this mod for themselves, not for the community, which is why they don't care if people want Magnusson, Alyx and other shit in it.
this is semi related to BMS since its HL1
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/vide...6126-Half-Life
Yahtzee reviews HL1.
the gameplay looked really good in my opinion. Can't wait to play this.
Now?![]()
From what I've read what Katana posted, Valvetime shouldn't have uploaded it from the beginning. But then they did. The video itself was a early version, they wanted to add comments and etc.
And in case anyone wondered if the team actually listens to feedback, Ram just posted this:
http://forums.blackmesasource.com/sh...&postcount=546
Edited:
And in case it looks like sarcasm, he posted this:
http://forums.blackmesasource.com/sh...&postcount=553
This just proves the point that they were total idiots NOT to post any news or content... If they've released videos and content sooner, they would have had that criticism, and as a result, they could have changed the content sooner...
"Oh, don't worry, we'll release when we're sure it's 100% ready, it will be perfect and 100% sure"... Yeah, right... And now they're changing content by popular demand, no skin off my back if they delayed the mod even more now that they realized that whatever they do to release a "perfect" mod, this will be their own vision of "perfection", and not what the community thinks about it...
They really acted like children since 3 years T_T
I think you didn't get the news. After the failed release in 2009 they went completely silent and
changed almost everything. It didn't turn out how they wanted it to be, that's why they never said anything in those 3 years.
The devs work on it, so they can make it how they want. They have internal beta testers who give them feedback.
All I've read from the feedback of the video were only about the voice acting and the iron sights.
And at least the bad feedback of the iron sights could have been avoided if Valvetime didn't decide to upload
that early made video. If that miscommunication wouldn't have occurred then the devs could've explained in commentary
of the gameplay that only the .357 and the crossbow have the iron sights, since the people thought that "every" weapon has them.
The voice acting were only the grunts who sounded "cheesy". If you would listen to their demo recordings of voice acting you can hear, that
they have pretty decent voice actors for the other characters.
And the community didn't or what?
What the fuck you guys, you complained about a legitimately good design choice and now they are changing it back to the dated nonsensical radio filtered voices. Quit trying to make their mod for them please, I'm trusting them to do what's best, and then everyone comes along and tells them it's bad because it's different.
It's their mod, but it's us, the fans, who made the success of HL1.
If they were making the remake of a dumb and forgotten FPS, they wouldn't have such a big media and public coverage.
We have our word to say in their job.
No you don't
That is the single most retarded thing anyone has ever posted here.
You have NO say in ANYTHING about this Free mod being developed by fans probably more loyal to HL1 then you are, and you think you get a say just because you played HL1?
Grow up kid.
Agreed, radio filters aren't necessary, but I'm pretty happy they are redoing the scripted dialogue. Hopefully there will be some option to choose from both.
Edited:
Not the end of the world, though. It will still be in the spirit of the game.
you're talking shit, you know it
why did they change the music? I liked the track
According to Joel Nielsen it was already an old track that was replaced.
Though, Raminator says they changed the song because of the criticism.
Hard to tell.
Didn't sound Half-Life-y to me.
The creators of the mod are Half-Life 1 fans, thats why they're making it.
Edited:
Its not just that, if you read the line they are making all Marines now wear gas masks, instead of just randomly. So we won't see the face generator they have working on the marines anymore since their faces will be covered.
I'm assuming some scripted ones won't wear masked, and probably squad leaders because they wear berets.
Whoever made the soldier's faces are probably going to be pretty pissed that they have to be covered because a bunch of people whined about the voices.
It's not supposed to sound like Half Life. Joel Nielsen stated that, as the game itself is not a remake but a recreation, the soundtrack will give Black Mesa its own feel and atmosphere.
Ah, i was right
http://forums.blackmesasource.com/sh...&postcount=556
Medics and Commands won't wear masks because they need to visually identifiable. Only standard grunts will wear gas masks all the time.
Plus the face creation system will still be seen used on Scientists and Security Guards
too cheerful
Then i can back to dream about seeing the balaclava soldiers?
I think they missed the point of the criticism at the voice acting. It wasn't the radio static, or how 'gruff' the voices were, but how unnatural and exaggerated the line reads were. Half-Life accomplished a parody of military banter without the ham, and that's all I want out of the voice acting for BM.
But hey it's not my mod right
I think devs should listen to their fans ONCE and reconsider soldier voice acting. Not that it 'over the top', it just plain out of entire mod style. And majority of people are seriously upset about that.
About everything else - people are just being people. Everyone had disliked some specific thing about they've seen or heard about BMS.
For example, I do not see the problem in ironsights or music, but screenshot of EGON posted in this thread has absolutely enraged me - they did in fact cut the spiral beam out. I liked it, it made EGON different from every other 'lol laser' gun.
Try to tell me that I'm not being nitpicky about this.
I dont like how gunshots lacks of volume, i can hear all those impact sounds perfectly clear (same level of volume if not higher) and that bothers me. It's not typical for valve games but quite typical for 3rd party source engine games for some reason.
The original voices, one of the grunts actually sounds pretty young, just with a radio filter:

EDIT:
lol

The grunts all wearing masks is... kind of lame. It makes sense and I see why they did it but whatever. I thought the idle chatter was pretty good even without a filter.
And anyway, since they're redoing the scripted dialogue, I'm a happy camper.
My only worry is that this'll delay the mod even more when it was finally seeming like it would be released soon. Oh well.
