Before I get hyped again, I better wait until it happens.
Before I get hyped again, I better wait until it happens.
suddenly all maps must be converted to obj. format and every single NPC requires a new model
I wish they could flash us with neuralizers and wipe all memory of Black Mesa. Then everyone can stop waiting, and if it actually gets finished, it'll be a nice surprise.
I don't want them to keep wiping my memory every time they decide to abandon something every 2 years and have to rework everything. I'd probably get a tumor or something.
I mean, they should wipe it once and then stop making announcements all together (don't even put up a website or mention it to anyone) until it's available for download.
So they can wipe out my memory of it only so i have to wait another long period of time?
but you won't be waiting for it since you don't know it exists until it's released![]()
So it came out of nowhere? I at least a trailer a couple of months before release.
Haha, 2009. How silly.
I know this trailer has come out, i think that VaSTinY and me were talking about AFTER my memory came out and this trailer didn't exist.
You never mentioned anything about taking down previous trailers :V
But anyway it's a moot point since we're all stuck here waiting with full memory of the mod that's eternally just outside of our grasp.
Random fact of the day

It's an ingenious move for con-artists.
You take the idea of making HL:Source into what it should have been. You make a few models, sounds, and maps in the signature Half-Life style and post them online like your team is making progress. After you invariably get enough attention you start amassing money in the form of donations.
Then you never update the mod ever again.
Slow, sluggish, pretentious, yes...
but it still didn't feel like Source.
sorry if I don't like waiting for something I wont use for a fraction of the time
then why are you posting here, get lost
There's really nothing to talk about the mod to be honest, only thing left to do is talk about how pissed most people are because of the mod being late. It's been 5 fucking years, haven't we talked about everything about the bloody mod?Jesus let people express their opinions on how long it's taking, just ignore their posts.
The black mesa team doesent have to give you anything, its not obligated. Its a hobby and most of the team are growing up and going through school or in a heavy job.
I'm sure if you paid them a $1500 a month it would be done within a short period.
Of course it would be released fast, but what I am saying is if people wonna whine about it then let them whine and don't tell them to get lost, that's rude don't you think?
You know whats also rude? Expecting something from someone that owes you nothing.
Also giving a release date and not releasing it is rude but meh....It's not like everything we post here is shoved up the dev's faces. It's a thread where we can express our opinions on black mesa and the only thing to talk about is how late it is.
I'm sorry, but that's still a terrible excuse and always will be. The BM:S Team does have to give us something because they promised us they would, giving us all these pictures, info and a trailer. What if you were in the hospital, injured? The doctors don't have to give you any help, but at the same time they do because it's their job, which they have agreed to do.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the BM:S team has to work 24/7 like sweat shop workers. I'm just saying that at this point they owe it to themselves and their community to get the mod done.
You're comparing someone who saves lives to a nerd behind his PC.
In this case the nerd is saving us from a few hours of boredom and the complete and total dread we'd have if the mod were to be cancelled. And sure, the analogy may be a bit bad, but it got the point across.
The mod isn't the job of the developers. The doctor is paid to help you, and he'll lose that pay if he refuses. The developers of the mod just made a promise, and if we were holding them to everything they've ever said about it, they'll have to build a time machine too, since they set a release date years ago.
Oh look its this discussion...again.
Later tonight: more Black Mesa megathread reruns.
This is what they shouldn't be doing. This is one of the reasons Duke Nukem Forever failed.
If they cant even manage to finish a mod 4 years in development with a full team, exactly what can they put on their resumes?
"4 years experience in video game development"
That goes completely to Child's play.
"And not one game released due to poor management"
Yeah this is sad
They don't owe us anything, but it would still be a pretty dickish move to not release something you've been working on and showing off for the past 7 years.
Is this what the mod looks like still?
Uh. I've been waiting years like everybody else and I'll still get it as I love Half Life. But that does look terrible. I see why they filter raped the trailer. The longer they leave this mod the worse it will look. If I downloaded just some random fan-made black mesa map for something like Left 4 Dead I'd expect it to look better than that.
I've heard that the journalist who played the levels played on low graphical settings.
it was also a dev build so the maps were not compiled fully, aka light maps were not don't correctly.
I would play it even if it looked like that, but I am sure that the final build won't be like this.
I can't wait for the day that BM:S actually gets released and then everyone will complain because it's not a godsend. Looking at those pictures seems to make it seem like it's not actually that much of a difference, low graphic settings or not. Again, Nuclear Dawn can still not seem like a Source game at low graphics settings, but that? That just looks like a piece of Hammer garbage, just with custom content that still follows the art style from Half-Life 2 that has just become dated. The reason why some mods and games can manage to look like they aren't on Source is because of the art style. Look at the difference between Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and then Left 4 Dead. These games look substantially different, but Left 4 Dead actually manages to pull off the Realistic looks that Half-Life 2 pulled off, but keeping the art style, inspired by Miyazaki work, of visual brush strokes and artsy looking styles that Team Fortress 2 did. And then we look at Black Mesa and it looks as if it's stuck in the tracks of Half-Life 2 with its overused lighting styles, bland architecture, and unchanged art styles. The different areas of Black Mesa may look good up close, but really, its not all that impressive. And while I can't say anything about this through pictures, I hope to GOD that they atleast make the game have some different feel from Half-Life 2. Maybe increase his speed, add more animations to the viewmodels, change out the sounds for ones with more of a kick, it's things like these that will help the game feel change entirely, even if they keep the art assets looking the same as they are now.
How long has the website been down?
Or is it just me?
