So I saw this image on the programmer...

Other than the part after the hours calculation (I say this because of how Black Mesa is really just Half Life, so technically they didn't have to develop the themes, weapons, and enemies that the "Average Game" company had to do), I'd say its a pretty accurate representation.

They don't want a repeat of last time (I'm assuming hes referring to the whole 2009 release)

So Obviously what they're doing now, they're very sure its going to happen.

    Edited:

    Stolen from the BMS forums.

The medi update really grabbed attention.

Also Commentators on ModDB seem be nicer/more positive to BMS then most other places.

The new media has restored my confidence in this mod. I used to be frustrated with having to wait but I'm content now that I have realized what the release date of "eventually" means. I'm going to wake up one morning in the near future to a pleasant surprise.

It's amazing how much hate this mod has spawned just because of the media blackout. Some people are even somehow twisting this update to mean the mod is dead - which I don't see how that makes any kind of sense.

I made that pic the other day to show someone how it was doing because he seemed to believe nobody cared. Probably the most purposeful 2 seconds of MS Paint usage I've ever done

Mod creators tend to release some last media of a project, for the fans, when it comes to an announcement that it's actually dead. Of course, not in this case.

this image leaves out the fact that the black mesa team aren't working on an entirely new idea, writing a story, designing enemies and creating gameplay elements; the majority of that has already been done and any original content is based on existing themes and re-worked versions of half-life's core elements

They are, this was the kickoff - I think it might be doing it like every week or something, rather than daily.

It's funny, before this started, time was passing by for me very quickly. Now a week feels like an eternity.

Huh, I thought they were going to be allowing mods based on it. It's kind of a shame all that great content won't be used ever again.

They won't allow use of their content anywhere else?

That's kind of a dick move.
I mean, atleast allow use with proper credit.

I don't think they realize that this mod (and the work that they've done) basically gives people the means to bring back some of their favorite Half-Life 1 mods...

Still, it is their mod and we don't really have a say in it unfortunately.

They releasing a file (a fdg? fgd? I think its called?) for Hammer that allows it to use the entities correctly when making custom maps. But no you can't make separate mods from it.

It really depends on the team as a whole. Basically, some of the devs want to open source it, and others don't

This stuff is old, but I'll just leave it here:

One of the prototype HUDs they made before the current, unrevealed HUD, as well as the "new" mp5 model

And another MP5 shot on Surface Tension

The mods that I would love to see full remakes of (Thanks to the work done for Black Mesa) would be:

    Scientist Slaughterhouse
Sven Co-op (Though we kind of already have that. It's called Obsidian Conflict and it's pretty dead)
    Case Closed

TBH, I've recently replayed SSH and for some reason I just didn't find it as entertaining as I did when I was younger. Although I'm still kind of interested in what the developer might have had planned for the ending, before he disappeared.

Also, I don't know about everyone else, but one of the reasons I liked about Sven Co-op was the sheer abundance of maps you could choose from. I didn't notice anywhere near that same amount with OC. The design in a lot of the maps for Sven seemed much better as well (remember ToonRun?). Plus, I have a lot of fond memories chilling out with friends on the Snark Cafe servers, listening to people playing HLSS on Monaween or something similar.

While I certainly found SSH to be less entertaining when replaying it at an older age, I was reminded of how technically impressive it is.

For a mod that started out as "a few simple traps to torture scientist NPCs in", it really went well above and beyond its initial scale. I always found the custom NPC attacks to be especially awe-inducing.

What? No. It normally goes this way: "Sorry, to say that the project is dead, here, have some last pieces of our work...". They don't raise hopes before.
People thought it would be dead, because they only watched the pictures but they didn't read anything about why they were released.
