What happened mate? :(
What happened mate? :(
that sucks man.
it's one of my biggest fears; I dump all my photos onto an external hd, and if it were to fail, I'd lose everything.
It just died, the platter isn't spinning, no motion or sound at all coming from it. And it was a Seagate.
This was the worst week because it died, and then to top it off I had 3 projects to hand in on Monday, and now I have to do them all today and tomorrow. Fuck my life, added to the frustration is me having woman issues. Why must I be such a fucking wuss at times. Oh well. Thanks for the feels, doods. :)

sure it's dead? would suck if you thought it was dead but it just turned out to be a loose cable haha
Edited:
and yeah I imagine if the disk just isn't spinning anymore the data could be recoverable, as wouldn't it still be saved on the little disk? just chucking that into another hard drive of the same model or something would work I imagine
I've had a look at all the cables and stuff, but nothing's working. And retrieving the platter from one to another would be a waste of time imo.
yeah but if it work at least you'd have your photo collection back
Yeah you should try contacting some data recovery service, or Seagate if your HD is still in warranty and it covers data recovery from faulty drives.
Don't give up, man, I'd be running around from one place to another with the thing if that happened to me.
Okay, so I've gotten somewhere and gained 500GB of space, I tried using a data recovery tool, but all it could gather was corrupted files etc. I've also asked my brother if he could help me with this, so Imma see what happens :) Thanks for all the helps guys :D
I really think you should go to a professional service if you have the money, the one time I tried recovering data myself not only did I not get any results but I also corrupted the data forever and couldn't recover it.
If you can manage to connect to the drive first thing you should do is image the drive if you're gonna do this without professional help. Once you image the drive you can try all sorts of recovery methods non-destructively to the image until you can get some sort of files out of it. Cause the more you use the drive the more files may get corrupt or overwritten by hard-drive - computer operations.
I'm trying to buy an underwater digital camera in 30 minutes and vivitar I heard pretty much sucks ass and I'm not trying to buy a film camera. Too expensive to get film.
Vivitar is literally webcam quality most of the time
What's your budget and what do you mean by "in 30 minutes"
Well I did something stupid and bought a gopro. $300 I don't have!fuck me.
Edited:
I'm going over my galpals house on the beach and I wanted to do a video thing with her
buying a videocamera is one of the things you don't do in a rush
Do it in 1080p stereo please.
We aren't shooting a porn lol.
I still find it funny that I can search on Youtube and find a video of Pickwickian's dad singing in Les Mis
or discussing deep social issues such as where to put shoes.
I thought all brits did that
I was surprised at how accurate the new Sherlock Holmes represents modern England!
My dad's not a Brit.
He has a brit accent
therefore brit
But he doesn't have a british accent.
I think we know your father better than you pickwickian
So, um... He's an actor. If you've heard him with a British accent it's because he's... What's the word... Acting?
in the second video he has a very heavy australian accent? doesn't sound british at all!
Birthday today, all presents went to bank account to pay off my massive rent-debt.
Happy birthday me. :)
Happy birthday dude! sorry about your presents going to your bank though that's a drag :/
Life's a bitch, I would drink it off but fuck alcohol, I'll go work instead.
So I was woken up this morning by a phone call from my flatmate saying the door lock wasn't working and he was locked out, I told him I was stil in California and he'll need to phone a locksmith. An hour later, I got a text saying the flat was robbed.
I phoned him and apparently the entire flat is trashed, everything is on the floor and anything valuable that they didn't take is on my flatmate's bed. I've had my tripod and flashgun stolen (everything else of value I brought with me to Cali), thankfully my tablet, monitors, PC, amp an speakers are fine.
My flatmate on the other hand had his PS3, D800, 300mm 2.8 and SB-900 stolen as well as random broken objects as they rummaged through his room.
I'm sitting at SFO, knowing I'm going to have to face this reality when I get home in 24 hours, not looking foreward to this. I'm going to go through everything in detail to check that all I had taken or broken was my flash and tripod, as well as check they didn't piss on my bed or something. The cleanup is going to be the worst.
Blah.
Edit: The flashes, tripod and camera were found outside![]()
So many unfortunate events going on here.
I wish I was insanely rich so I could help you all.
fucking robbers man. I hope that nothing else was taken and that your cleanup is swift and not too bad. At least you took all your stuff i guess.
Oh an uplifting note, got some prints done at my local huge chain store... quality is quite good.
I love getting prints.
Everything's not so bad.
Just watched the Aurora Borealis as I flew over the arctic at night, going from SFO to LHW.
Got a few shots of it, not brilliant though, as they were handheld and ISO 6400.
So guys, my good friend here at Uni (co-head of the photography society we set up - in which we do absolutely nothing because of bloody health and safety and rubbish institution bureaucracy), Oliver Seary has made it into the 10 finalists of the Google Student Photography Prize!

His Flickr is here:

If any of you want to send him a message of congratulations, I can pass on the message. I think he deserves it. And he's certainly got my congratulations.
I'm proud of him.
:)
Edited:
Haha, just realised that it sounded like I was demanding some praise for him. Just meant it as a nice sentiment.
Pass it on from me, Ed. A worldwide competition finalist deserves a little congratulations i think.
The prize is to a destination of any choice with a pro photographer as your mentor.
The question i just couldn't answer was where?
Where would you go?
-wrongthread snip-
I'd go to Brazil.
After fooling around with my camera settings and reading a couple light reads on photography last weekend, i've started to seeing everything in reflections.
Like, concentrating on glass windows during a bus ride, seeing if I could frame something interesting, or looking at someone with those awful full mirror sunglasses and thinking only about how they act as an interesting fisheye kinda thing.
Oh, if only I could take my DSLR with me everywhere I go.
