If you're on SEA and low bronze, you're probably doing some basic thing hugely wrong (personal experience) such as, not keeping yourself poor.. or not enough miners.. etc..
Post a replay and someone here might give you some pointers (I would but I'm in no position to give advice lol)

You can't expect to be good the first games you play. I was brutally crushed the first times I played, it took months before I built up enough skill (and courage) to actually advance in the leagues.

to clarify, a protoss did a 4 gate and failed and decided to make voids which died to a couple queens and he claimed queens have too much range and quit

you know that means your MMR is high and it's going to promote you? if it is consistently matching you with silvers and you are bronze then yes (if you're winning)

Entering a School Brood War tournament on Friday. I know how to play etc... but are there any things I should know/good strategies for each race.
BTW my school is 90% Asian, with a fair amount of those Korean, so I don't expect to win.

Don't get mad if you just bought the game and are losing matches. I lost a LOT of matches when I first bought the game and I kinda had fun at the same time (maybe I have a brain injury or something). I just recently started to win almost all my games, I'm still bronze though.

I finally made it to #1 in my (plat) league and was facing diamonds and even winning, then I went on an 8 loss streak and now I'm 25th :I

A lot of us have been there, I started off in Bronze, and now I am in Diamond, and I can often beat Masters people (Tournaments and such, just inconsistent). Try to find one race that you like playing and stick with it rather than playing multiple, it will help you improve faster.

Those Silver players have Bronze skill level since they are facing you, Rank and League aren't clear indicators of skill, MMR(Hidden skill level) is, keep that in mind, I recommend you find a build as well rather than doing random shit.

I won none of my placement matches and then lost 15 games after that. Your MMR (hidden MatchMaking Rating) does not start from 0, it starts from an intermediate level so that it's harder for pro players to smurf (instead of just making a new account and starting from 0). One month later (I have played 130 matches now) I am in high silver league believe me you're fine.

I'd recommend getting one aggressive opening to memorize and one standard eco opening depending on if you scout an early aggression on the enemy, and working on your macro most of all for a while. Once you feel confident with that you can start learning builds how to counter strange uncommon builds like fast banshee, fast tech to mutalisk etc. Right now when you scout you probably don't know what you're looking for but do it anyway, and if you get stomped by a build that you see quite a bit (4GATE FUCK PROTOSS) watch videos on how to counter that build as your race, or watch that replay to see when they're most vulnerable on their build, what gives that build away early on (for 4gate it's 1 gas, lots of energy on the nexus, chronoboost on gateway, early gateway, proxy pylon and later on 3 more gateways). and what that build would be most vulnerable to.
But for now look at a standard favourite opening (speedling expand for zerg is something that players will opt for like 80% of the time for example). Forget builds, you need to learn openings and macro and there is no reason to learn strategy if you cannot even manage your larvae injects / chrono boosts.
I'm not saying this from a pro player point of view, I only just got to silver after playing for a month, but this is how I learned.
