Mostly the mainstream music is shit
Mostly the mainstream music is shit
Personal taste.
Honestly, we're at the best age for popular and underground music. Stuff in the past is amazing and influential, but you can't live there.
Absolutely not, the 60s, 70s, and 80s all had great music, but they had their share of chart-topping shitstains as well check this song out.
It was at the top of the charts for a whole month in 1969 and it's just as inane and stupid as a lot of songs today

Seriously, that was like Lady GaGa or something back then.
He was saying there's no such thing as bad music, just different tastes! Reading before you click the reply button is good practice! Good completely unrelated subject matter post though, bro!
Sorry, but this is just a terrible generalisation.
pfff music now is way better than before.
now with the internet no stupid music companies can step in and fuck with the music so you can get it raw. and the power of indie labels makes sure that they stay raw.
Take your own advice, he said it's just tastes I gave two examples of unquestionably bad music.
Yeah.. no.
The real question is why I've never seen people here discuss music:
http://www.facepunch.com/forums/262
Subjective or not, we're here to help each others interests.
it's lost its class in the name of ass
That one song doesn't represent the entire genre of Rap:
This is rap but there's no mention of ''bitchez, da club, bling and fast cars''.
compare the views on those videos
God damn kids and their 8-track tapes!
The older generation will always hate on the younger generations music
No, but it pretty much represents popular rap. Sure, some popular songs might not just come out and talk about bitches and hoes from the very start but they get there eventually.
why is it that every-time someone posts "real" hip-hop, it's just some white dude
Did someone expect Tyler the Creator?
Edited:
I posted one example, go listen to Dr. Dre's ''Chronic'' or N.W.A.'s ''Straight Outta Compton'' then.
I know people may not want to admit it, but isn't a taste of music subjective? What you might find awesome can be for some people, completely shite. I'm not that keen on most chart music, personally, however. Some of it I find okay, but the autotuning can get on my nerves. That's my opinion.
I don't see the reason of all the hate towards making music with computers, I know some techniques such as auto-tune and so on might be questionable, but if we, for example, take the whole electronic genre, it brought us alot of new stuff that a few years ago couldn't be even imaginated, I think it actually brought the genre back to earth, now everyone with a laptop can make an electronic track and release it on the internet, and in my opinion that's something really good.
Now, whether they are producing good, creative stuff or making another Skrillex ripoff it's another problem.
every generation has incredibly shitty music.
see: bee gees
What. What. What. What. What. What. What.
Are you crazy or something, The bee gees are freaking awesome.
well
you're entitled to your horrible opinion I guess!
People like it, therefore it is not unquestionably bad.
I think it's all a matter of taste.
I think music is pretty fantastic now to be honest.
I don't get "taste", people are capable of enjoying different styles of music.
Just a little effort is needed.
pop music made for the sole purpose of gettin mo money is the only music i would call bad, everything else is taste and there's nothing wrong with taste.
that being said I think pop writers are getting lazier. I mean, nothing on the charts can compare to this:
It's not like crappy pop hasn't been around for decades. Justin Bieber, for example, has clearly been modelled on Donny Osmond:
Of course, Crazy Horses is the greatest Latter Day Rock song ever and possibly the greatest pop song not by Abba to ever exist, but you get the point.
through the years you'll find the minority hating the present music.
Always happens, and they're dullerds for doing so.
This whole thing about shitty music, is that people literally just don't look for music enough or care enough about what they listen to.
Edited:
You lack a basic understanding of subjectivity and how it is intrinsically tied to music.
>now
meaning studios didnt use to just pick up shitty people to make a profit?
you know, like a business?
the music INDUSTRY
Why does it matter if it's a white person
Eminem is still my favorite.
no i just think it's strange that it's never a black hip-hop artist even though there's a plethora of intelligent and amazing black hip-hop artists.
But I love that song!
Then again, I also like modern pop. I like everything really. Except really death-y metal.
Music hasn't changed in terms of quality. Music back in the 50's had it's ups and downs. People raised in the 30's or 40's didn't grow up on 50's music. So they really didn't get into it. Just like now.
I always thought of Justin Bieber to be this generation's Leef Garret, how he wants to break out, but is stuck in this, "Pop" mold that people put him in.
Narrow mindedness is going to be the death of this generation, I swear on this. Why is it that you believe that this decade is more prone to musical releases that are universally accepted as shit? You don't seem to take in account that nobody remembers the terrible acts of previous decades because of their lackluster quality. Why is it that whenever I refer back to the music of the 60s and 70s I receive an almost automatic response of either Bob Dylan, The Beatles, or Led Zeppelin?
Just because music might not have deep meaningful lyrics, doesn't mean its bad. I like heaps of modern mainstream music, as well as a lot of classic rock and other older music. We only think modern music sucks because we're exposed to all of it. Its not like we hear about the crappy bands of the 60's and 70's, we only hear of the classics like the beatles or pink floyd, so we have an overall positive view of that whole era in terms of music. I'm sure there was music back then that was extremely popular, but no one knows about now. Just because a band/singer is popular, doesn't mean that their popularity will last. in 50 years, how many people will still remember Bieber, for example?
So yeah you aren't looking hard enough.
Edited:
I don't know why immortal technique isn't more popular. His music is amazing.
Black Star
I wouldn't say that popular music is shit, it's just too generic and simplistic in comparison to underground songs.
