So since i lost office 2010 from windows i miss it, and i can get it back but i don't have the disc.
I don't pirate it, so that choice is dropped too..

Is there a bit more "advanced" version of office for ubuntu, not costing anything? just an upgrade of some sort?
And it needs to be stable with ubuntu 11.10, since it's what i am using atm.

If not, which distro should i go to, i use ubuntu on my laptop, for school work!

Every linux distro is the same, so whatever you can do on one distro, you can do to the other. Libreoffice is the highly recommended office program out and there isn't really anything better. It works well with windows files and I've used it for school work many times with success.

I guess you are right, i just don't feel like libre can do that much, it looks very outdated.
    Anyway, thanks!

    I use Google Docs.
I hate word processors, so the fewer options the better.

You could take a look at IBM's 'Lotus Symphony'.

Never used it myself on Linux, but I have on Windows, and it's pretty neat. They do have a Linux versoin.

You download Lotus from the site above and LaTeX is different from the normal word processors that you're used to.

Wow! I gotta say that Google Docs has improved. Last time I used Docs, the word processor looked a bit like notepad with a basic formating tools.

Yeah the amount of tools that's there now is generally sufficient for my University projects. The main cool thing is that they're saved to the cloud practically in real-time

I'm not sure about that. Once you learn how to use it, it is so useful for just about most things.

If you don't want to learn, you can use LyX which is a WYSIWYG latex editor.

Actually, you'll find that TeX is for anyone who wants to write nice documents. You don't -have- to write multi-page equations to not wanna fuck around with styling in Word.
