Don't try to fight in close quarters with a Tank Destroyer(Usually a tank with a fixed gun that points forward and excels at long-range combat and ambushing, but some can be used in Close Quarters with the right gun) unless you have a derp gun(Powerful guns that tend to one shot kill or do heavy damage, IE KV's 152mm, but most tend to be horribly inaccurate, so best used at close range) or know what you're doing, otherwise you're just going to die. Take that from a experienced German TD Line Player.

When using a Tank destroyer, be sure to hide behind bushes(Not in them), because they provide concealment and camouflage your tank so you're not spotted right off the bat. But they can still spot you by using your tracers(shots), so be prepared to move to a new spot. Also, destroyed tanks, both friendly and enemy provide good cover and so does rocks and most buildings.

The worst enemies for TDs tends to be artillery and fast-moving light tanks like the T-50, A-20, and ETC. For Light tanks, if they move quick enough and get close enough to you, they can either circle strafe around you(Move in circles around you while firing) or stop you from turning by getting close to your side, if they can't get close enough to you, they'll just let the artillery(Long-Range tanks that tend to stay at their team's base and fire using a special view that allows them to see the battle from a bird's eye view and do massive damage if they hit you or close to you, but suffer in close quarters combat) kill you for them. Best way to avoid getting killed by Light Tanks is be sure you have reliable teammates supporting you and avoiding situations where you can circle strafed easily. For artillery, just find cover behind tall rocks and buildings, it'll protecting from arty coming a certain direction, but not all and try to kill scouting tanks quickly before they can spot you.

Also if you get to a tank like the T-28 or M3 Lee, don't use it like a normal medium, use it as sniping tank.

Best place to get information on the tanks and the tank types would be the Tankopedia or the World of Tanks Wikia:

    Great.

First mistake. Assuming he knew what a TD is.

Second. Assuming he knew what a derp gun was.

    Thirdly. Derp gun.

Angle your tank, you might bounce shit, learn the map, shoot for weakspots, know your role, use tactics.
And most important of all get hit by arty, invisible tanks, defend a entire flank after everyone else went the other way, get set on fire, dicerolls, matchmaking fucks up.

Best tip is to be really lucky, and not giving a shit about what happens.
Anyways what server are you going to play on?

You're going to lose and there's nothing you can do about it - get use to this idea because almost all your lost matches will be like this.

As for actual advice and things I never learned until later:

-Turrets always add more HP. This usually defeats any new downsides they have (less turret traverse, less armor, so on). Don't ignore these upgrades. Some tanks like the IS-3 and M36 Slugger have a turret upgrade that doesn't lead to anything; these are usually straight up upgrades unlike some of the M4 varients whose turrets lose sheer armor for more HP and the ability to mount better guns. The only time you neglect this rule is with the KV(1/2). It's literally the only tank where you'll become less effective adding a new turret without the guns it has to offer.

-Check your depot every now and then. If you have modules (tracks, guns, treads, engines) from tanks you'll never use again, sell them. I didn't know this for my first three fucking months of playing, so I was sitting on a 2.4 million silver stockpile of stuff I didn't need. This also goes for ammo.

-Angling armor helps, but never makes you an iron wall. At most, it'll add 5-30mm more armor until you're upper tier, so don't expect a really big gun to suddenly not penetrate you because you're at a 45 degree angle. Also, with angling, make sure that if you're in a situation where the enemy has to come around the corner; that your side is angled to be hidden so that he sees only the front of your tank first. It sound silly, but I've made this mistake a few times.

-Learn weak spots. Once you know them, you can wreck tanks you once thought where invincible. Common weak-spots include cupolas, doors, hatches, view slots, lower front glacis, and so on. Few tanks have a magical weak spot with no indication. Back of turreted tanks usually have ammo racks, so if you can penetrate them with an HE round, you have a chance to blow up the enemy ammo rack for insane damage.

-Never rely on your penetration crosshair. That's only assuming at point blank range with no angle. I know orange is suppose to stand for a "maybe", but it's usually a no-go. Green on heavy slopes means nothing either.

-Check the penetration, damage and rate-of-fire of separate guns. Just because one gun is 105mm, it may actually preform far worse to the 75mm. The only good, pure HE guns are the 105mms for the tier Vs, the 105mm for the tier III American TD, the 152mm for the KV-2 and the SU/ISU-152/Object 704 and (debatable) the U-11 for faster Russian tanks. A great example of a toss-up is the 100mm and 122mm on the KV-3. One has the capability of doing 100 more damage, but has poor accuracy, heavy drop and a longer reload. Technically, it does more damage per minute, but the 100mm usually is more accurate and has the same penetration; in cases like this, it's really a toss up based on your play style.

-Tier V scouts will lose money. Period. If you're running non-premium, about tier VI and VII is where you could consistently lose money on a loss. If you are running premium, it's more around VII and VIII.

-Hold onto some tier Vs. These are great money makers if you're not going to buy premium. I highly suggest the KV-2 for it's unusual play style with the 152mm; though it's just as potent with the 107mm.

-You don't have to kill everything you see. If you know you're going to have a hard or impossible time, ignore the enemy and either retreat or go around him. Simple as that. If it's a do or die case and you can't penetrate at all, switch to HE and pray.

-You will get no-damage criticals. This means you hurt some module, but that's it.

-Best way to kill a medium or light is to tread them. Best way to avoid or get away from a heavy is to tread them. Best way to fuck up a tank destroyer's day is to tread them. Just because it does no damage (aiming right at the lower treads and not the treads/hull) doesn't mean that you're not helping quite a bit. HE usually helps in treading tanks, especially if you know you'll have trouble penetrating with AP.

-Breaking the things around the capture points (that command post) supposedly speeds up the capture rate by a tiny faction. So if you don't need it for cover, run it over or shoot it. As others iterated, only do this when you're 100% sure you won't need the cover to act as a saving grace. The most it can do is block one, maybe two, shots.

-HE rounds work wonders against later French vehicles, from the AMX M4 and AMX12t and up. It also slaps artillery pretty badly.

-Your team will be stupid. Your artillery will try to shoot an enemy you're ramming when you're both at less than 10% health. Your team will have no concept of what a capture point is, or a flank, or of a word called 'teamwork.'

Despite all this, try to have fun. World of Tanks is a great time-bite and I've really gotten addicted despite some bad days. Most of all, try to have fun, try to be useful and for the love of god if you mount a really bad gun on a really big tank or upgraded turret - we'll all point and laugh at you.

^ That. Don't fucking do that.

    Your not you are
I idly wrote it up while Skyping and watching some shows. Bite me.

Its won me a game more than once
Doing the opposite has won it for me - I swear it speeds up the cap by a tiny margin. We had an equal number of tanks on the point, we only started capping a second earlier, but we ended up winning 100 v 70 or so.

During the initial grinds, yeah. Even when they're fully decked out - you have to score some pretty decent damage to break even on a loss.

When I get the good games rolling, I can easily make a huge 10-20k profit. I actually made about 20k something XP in that tank before even noticing that the accelerate crew feature was off.

I would go for the 76. The 76 offers more damage than the 122 and above all else, accuracy. Penetration doesn't matter since it uses HE for ammo if I remember correctly.

I know this is going to sound very random but there is something odd with the Tiger I's 2nd turret.

Why is it considered a Tier 8 turret?

To my knowledge, the Porsche turret was standard on all Tigers and in game it is only available on the Tiger I. Why would it not just be a Tier VII.

The only arty with a turret is the SU-26 and possibly the BatChat 155mm.

Also a little FYI on that thing, it won't be a revolver 155 mounted on a BatChat 25t chassis, Batignolles-Chatillon is the manufacturer's name just like AMX, Lorraine or Renault. It's a SPG based on a chassis inspired by the M47 (mainly the suspension), they were considering making an autoloader version but it was scrapped before any were built.

so i was in this game with my lowe. i stayed back the whole game trying to snipe, but the other team died too fast. there was like 2 tanks left on the other team at the other end of the map surrounded by my teammates and im no where near. we were leading like 13-5 or something. so i was like ok so no point to get over there, i just left the game with full hp, never having been hit the entire game. but i got charged 8k repair cost at the end. im pretty positive theres no way for me to get killed (8k is the repair cost). i dont think i wouldve gotten hit at all...whats up with that?

I think that you should be able to report a player for stupidity, and when they accumulate 10 or 20 reports, they get reviewed. If they're found to be retards or just generally fucking stupid, they will be put in a "special needs" matchmaker, that only pits them against other retards and fucking stupid people.

So the other day a friend of mine and I were playing WoT in a platoon, I was in an M3 and he was in an M2LT. We come across a PzIV and start circling him like two pissed off bees, taking pot-shots at his rear and side armor, doing a decent amount of damage to him. He couldn't keep up with either of us until I had to stop because SUDDENLY TANK WRECKAGE forced me to stop and try to turn around it, then he killed us both in rapid succession. Then something magical happened.
Now I know I've expressed a fair bit of rage at this game, but this is ridiculous.
