I've had that a couple of times in the developer preview. It didn't bother me as it only did that really late at night while I wasn't using it.

Also, Snap works on 16:9s. My friends thought I was crazy to get one...
How did you take that image?
Probably a virtual machine
Looks like it, there's a telltale black line on the right that means a less-than-perfect crop.

Anyone else have an IE10 without Metro mode, though?

Ah, Steam seems to be silently CTDing as well.
If another browser is default IE defaults to desktop only mode.
Does anyone have a confirmed time for the built-in timebomb to go off?
Annoying, but that did the trick.
Anyone know how to fix this with vistart?

The build expires Jan 15th.
Mmm, nVidia seems to think their driver rev R295's compatible with W8...
Not as if I've got anything against the default MS drivers, though.
Used it more today. Have I mentioned how much I like using Desktop mode with the Start Orb re-enabled?
That's about it. I won't be upgrading. Get on the ball(mer), Microsoft.
Is there any information if games run better on Windows 8 than 7?
Since it's a consumer preview and nobody's even started developing for it I don't think a straight answer can be given
hmm
Okay that's it, downloading visual studio 11
I know you meant games but you just reminded me of developing on windows 8
6-12 months
it can be changed at any time
well windows 8 has a lower RAM footprint so in that respect, yes.
i really doubt much else has changed in that department, though.
Should I install Windows 8 on a new PC I'll be getting in a few days, or buy a Windows 7 copy?
i wish the desktop/Metro APIs were more integrated.
i.e. you can develop a tile in the same program as your desktop application. having a level of abstraction between the two just seems stupid and really ruins the flow between desktop and metro.
Edited:
no use buying a new copy of Windows 7 when Windows 8 will be released soon
i'd just install consumer preview and wait for Windows 8 official release later on
Edited:
it'd be more dependent on the efficiency of the operating system than developers specifically developing for win8
Should I install the consumer preview now or wait for everyone to update their drivers?
And does steam work on W8?
Both steam and Source games work perfectly on W8.
anything that works on windows 7 should work on windows 8
OK cool then.
I think if it weren't due to ARM compatibility I could see something like this working wonderfully. You develop all the backend of you application normally, then develop both UIs entirely seperately, a Aero and a Metro UI. Depending on the device type, or the user preference the application will launch in one mode, and on x86_64 applications the UI will be able to work in both, with the option to switch at any given time.
No loss in functionality for Aero, and the program will have most of the functionality possible with Aero in Metro this way too.
I bluescreened again - this time in the middle of nothing. DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.
I'm assuming there's something that isn't playing well with 8...don't know what though.
A driver

Is it me or are numbers styled differently?
I checked the msstyles and it still uses Segoe UI 9pt yet the numbers look slightly more fancy.
Maybe it's wanting you to use the drivers in Windows Update?
Holy shit.
Win+PrtScrn saves a png image to the Pictures library without having to paste and save!
I, um, oh dear. Will it still be possible to buy Windows 7 after Windows 8 launches? I'm not entirely sold on this whole Metro thing, and I'd like to run my rendering machine on Windows 7.
Did finally get Win 8 on my tablet. I am not quite sure if this is news but its a real pain setting the touch keyboard to work properly on Facepunch. It seems to appear and disappear almost immediately. The only way way it seems to work is by spamming keys when it does open and hope it sticks. Every other text field seems to work fine though.
Otherwise it seems to work very well, no crashes or anything. Ridiculously smooth too.
Yea, the numbers seem to have changed a bit. "1" is the most noticeable and annoying for me as it makes all the lines in my IRC client inconsistent if the time stamp has a 1 in it.
Just install Windows 8, damn this is awesome.
Did just learn that swiping to the right on the left edge of the screen basically is Alt F4 for metro.
How do I add my GMail to the email app? It wants the server and domain stuff
I wish they made shutting down and shit more easier, like if you just press your name tile and it says "Shut down" or something.
Took me a while to find it hidden in the mini settings pallet.
How would I go about uninstalling Win8 completely when I'm done, or when it decides I'm done.
I booted into Windows 7, used EasyBCD to remove the Windows 8 entry from the bootloader and removed the Windows 8 partition.
If you have 2 step verification on, you need to use the password provided by that.
Has Segoe changed at all? I noticed it's changed as well, especially around the date and time on the taskbar.
