Hmm, the messenger app wont let me share photos into it, I'm disappointed.
Oh well, my laptop is back on linux now, its poor single core processor doesn't like running at 100% all the time.

Programs are trying to use IE. Apparently it is not letting it thus breaking shit. I have no idea how to fix it.
What programs?
Any program that does not use webkit to display web pages within their own app.
Edited:
It calls for things from IE and for whatever reason it wont give it to the program to render the page.
Thanks for clarifying because that original sentence was extremely awkward.
Have you got an example of a program not working on Windows 8? I'm pretty sure Windows Explorer uses a subset of IE to render some parts and that works fine
Any ideas why the default apps are now starting to randomly crash at the splash screen and then continue to refuse to start? It's getting a little annoying now. I've begun reinstalling the apps that don't launch, but it's terribly tedious.
Edited:
apps which I've downloaded from the store are crashing now too.
Edited:
it's just a select couple which don't.
My guess - trident got updated and those apps use old calls. Give it a while for them to update. I highly doubt they've limited trident. Since it's even accessible on Wp7.
I am going to bitch at them all to use webkit because this is just fucking STUPID
Why won't you name the applications having issues?
Guild Wars 2 was one of them trying to render a web page in game. They have implied on the forums that they are trying to use IE to render it and on 8 it does not work at all.
It is going to be the same for any other program that is trying to use those resources. It will not let the program use it.
Like I've said - most likely new API which hasn't been fully detailed yet. It's probably going to be a very simple switch and MS might even include a legacy one, if only because a lot of apps use UIwebview (or whatever the windows version of it is called. I honestly can't remember).
Eh, windows 8 isn't retail yet. There might be similar small kinks here and there. Also did it work in the previous versions or has it always not worked?
Other than having to use Task Manager to switch users (retarded...), I've really had no issues with the RP release. The wireless issues I had with the past 2 releases have been fixed, so I'm a happy man.
Click your name in the start screen.
Thanks for that tip... I didn't know.
Just read some of the old thread, it's pretty funny.
Seems like I was right about Aero one year ago: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?...1#post28695100
I'm liking it so far, but I have an odd text issue with facepunch. It sort of reminds me of that weird stuff that happened with the windows 7 betas.
They aren't perfect for cropping, but you can see what I mean. The first screen is the 'normal' text. The second is after I select some text and release, OR if I switch to that tab from another one. If you move your mouse around it defaults to the first screen's text. And it's only on facepunch that I've noticed it. It does it a few times when typing text too, randomly flickering while I type, which is really annoying as well.
Looks like DirectWrite / ClearType is having issues. Is this just in Firefox?
Yep.
I really dislike the whole metro UI. I installed it over top of Windows 7 because I might be getting a laptop to replace this desktop in the future. I log in, I'm greeted with this weird metro UI stuff. :( Most of the routines that I do on windows 7 (click on start button and type to search instead of having to use their metro search going through the apps, leaving fullscreen in youtube videos (bring up that stupid charms menu now), among other things) I cannot do in Windows 8.
It's a damned shame they're literally forcing this stupid tablet UI with their tiny little "apps" onto their userbase. I'm definitely not switching to Windows 8 permanently when it comes out. So far to me, it seems like it's going to go the way of Vista and Zune.
Also, the release preview should NOT say "TAP here to decide what to do with this drive" when you mount new drives through disk management. No Microsoft, this is a desktop, not a tablet.
I haven't seen anyone say it works. We might just have to wait for a patch if Rockstar ever decides to make one.
The text on the top one looks like blurred shit. The text on bottom looks fine.
I'm pretty sure he knows that or he wouldn't have posted it.
Are you trying to retroactively add alt-text to that screenshot or something?
When in doubt, press the Windows Key on your keyboard.
Google just released their Metro version of Chrome.
There's nothing metro about it in the least bit.
Yes those are tiered menus.
Well let's see how long I can go Metro only.
Upon further inspection it might just be a Win32 Application thrown together to work in the metro interface.
So no ideas on what to do with it?
Why does IE Metro simply get disabled when I set Chrome "Metro" as the default browser?
Edited:
And vice versa when I set IE back to default, It's quite dumb that we can't have two metro browsers at once
Nothing Metro yet. They've got the browser in Metro, now I suspect work will be put into actually Metro-fying it.
Windows 8 has a very retarded way to boot Windows 7 in its new fancy OS selection menu. It restarts the PC when I tell it to boot with Windows 7 and THEN boots with windows 7. I assume that it's because windows 8 already booted, and this wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that everytime it does that Windows 7 prompts me for a chkdsk. Ugh.
I haven't had to check disk when selecting 7.
it's most likely my hard drive, but it's perfectly fine, the chkdsk shows no errors and this is a 5 month old laptop anyways.
I have Windows 8 setup on a kids' desktop. I'm trying to force Chrome down their throats so I can monitor their activity, and IE10 isn't supported for my monitoring tool, since IE10 is still in beta. How can I remove IE10 from the Startscreen, without uninstalling it completely?
Right click > Uninstall/Unpin from Start
How old is the kid?
Nah, I actually just went to the bottom of this page right away.
