So many Scars.
So many Scars.
Damnit, I can't beat the two soldiers in the Arena. I don't have enough bandages to spam.
So don't get shot.
What's that? There's tactics other than blindly rushing?!
That's what I did when I first started playing ShoC. Man, I was just horrible at STALKER all those years ago.
your matress was rigged by the monolith.
God damn it. Getting raped by invisible anomalies, teleporting and getting cockblocked by a BTR, then having to fight the military in pitch black is one thing, but falling dead tired on a bed and actually dying is the definition of maximum ragequit.
Such is life in the zone. :)
When I played through CoP for the first time and there were no decent mods available for it I would've agreed with you but now I have to respectfully disagree.
Granted, it's not the most action-packed game and yeah, I hated how everything is friendly towards you but in mods that add hostile A-Life and tune the game into a harsh survival experience, it has a good mix of action and atmospheric stalking.
While they aren't giant, I loved the fact that basically every location you see in CoP is modeled very closely to real-world locations, especially in Pripyat where things are sort of even in their correct places. However, the locations are a bit too tiny and for example the "swamp" location around Yanov just feels like a small puddle and instead of having many maps, each one dedicated to a sort of a "theme", CoP tries to cram many themes like burning farmstead, spooky summer theater ruins, abandoned factories and shipwrecks all in the same map, detracting from the location's unique atmosphere.
However, when you start getting into a good CoP mod it's amazing because it generally plays out like life in the Zone should : There aren't many encounters with hostile stalkers (even with mods that introduce hostile-on-sight mercs) but if you have discipline to not save outside of safe areas, outings to the Zone in Redux and Misery are really tense. In addition, the day / night cycle and the general A-Life of the stalkers makes the Zone really come alive.
The english voices were most awful, yes. Russian voices were very good.
None of the games had terrific animations. You just see that more in CoP because it's cutscenes are in-engine.
I understand your gripes with CoP though : Back in the days when Call of Pripyat did not have any major mods besides SMRTR, I too had serious gripes with CoP vanilla though because they had huge potential and had all these great things in the game like how the game world slightly reacts to your actions (when you trigger achievements) and your choices unlock different quest chains but then they fudged it up with a total and utter lack of NPC hostility and lack of things to do in Freeplay but god damn with good mods, I find Call of Pripyat really entertaining to just live and stalk in. I find myself sometimes wasting whole days just tagging along stalker parties and "living" the life in the Zone.
I agree. COP was amazing apart from the English voice acting. (Which is why I stick to my Russian copy of the game)
Saying that however. Add some good mods to the mix and the game is amazing. And you can waste a LOT of time just wondering around and playing. Once I fly home I plan to play the living life out of it all over again.
English voice acting in all the games is bad.
CoP imo is the most polished of all 3 in terms of it's engine; the best base on which to build a mod, and considering a bunch of mods are already working on (and having success in) porting all the old levels and making some completely new ones, there'll soon be tons of content.
I guess. But then a lot of Russians may say that the Russian voice acting was horrible. Maybe it only sounds good to us because we are used to the English and can tell when something is odd or off. And likewise for the Russians. In any-case. COP I think is an amazing game and add in mods and the upcoming stuff. It shall remain to be a great game for a while to come.
Yeah, but the overall tone is more serious and fitting for the atmosphere. There's no "over-dramatic" or goofy voices, even Hawaiian is not flamboyant in the russian version.
It's not that bad in SoC but yeah, most of the time it's only good for comedic purposes.
Imo, what Call of Pripyat would need was "buffer levels" to plug the holes between the areas so the 3 levels wouldn't feel so disconnected from one another. Considering they'd be smaller than the "main" levels they could have a combination of dangerous anomaly fields, landmines and in case of the areas that lap over the unused parts of Pripyat, Monolith death squads at night and by day snipers watching over the streets with Psi-emitters/anomalies that mess with your head / kill you if you don't have a lot of protection.
Sorry, we got a bit too carried away. Still, I hope you try to stream again sometime, I always like to see FP'ers streaming, especially since there has been a long while without streams.
I guess a lot of it comes to preference. Some buddies of mine and my brother who play COP don't mind the English voices. But I and another handful of people HATE them.
Stream is done. 80% of the chat was Tribes talk.
Edited:
Sorry if I sounded boring, but it was kinda late-ish and people would think I was crazy if I yelled Shazbot out of nowhere.
SHAZBOT
you shouldnt've said that you GOTTA GO FAST
That stream lacked serious SHAZBOT and needed more FRASIER.
When I said Gotta go fast I was mostly thinking of Sanic.
I'll try to improve on that. Hopefully nobody will be home tomorrow, so people won't know how crazy I am.
I finished the Loner sprites and I also did the Bandits:

Really, the only voice in CoP I hate is Hawaiian's. If it weren't for him, I don't really mind the English.
ALOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHAAAAAaaaa
I've got all the shit you're ever gonna need!
What about strider?
quick question, just started playing Call of Pripyat and I just got done inspecting the first helicopter and now an emission is coming
what the fuck is an emission and how do i hide from it?
It is a surge of high radioactivity and other stuff bad for your health. You gotta go where your map tells you to. It always lists your nearest safe area
If you're on the Southern Plateau, sprint for the Snork Cave.
If you're in the Swamp, sprint for the tunnel under the road.
If you're at the Iron Forest, sprint for the building entrance just north of the Hind.
what about SPILL THE BEANS
So everyone, what have I missed this past few months I've been away?
Nothing, my rape story isn't ready yet and there's 1.5 pages left.
Edited:
wow what the fuck
my world just shattered and I think I was just psy-sodomized by that.
Well I'm clad that unlike the rest of the wankers in the industry, these guys actually correct & confirm some things in their games.
Mr. Buzzkilington :[
except it's just Joe saying that and he's not exactly an official source of GSC info
Edited:
i have a feeling that's his opinion, not an official statement
that said, scar is not charon
Both of these achievements have hand shaking and involve hostages, interesting. The second is from Payday: The Heist
Just spent a bit of time testing my stream settings. Found out if I'm in game mode, I can stream fullscreen.
What version of Stalker do you need to run OGSE?
I'm thinking of downloading it.
1.0005 should work well.
Santa isn't real.
